Who wants to be the last parent to enroll their kid in a failing private school before “the market works” and it closes? OR we can test taxpayer-funded voucher schools up front with the same exam publics take—so parents can compare apples to apples ahead of time.

Cool! And classy!
Charlie Becker found Ryan Day right after the game to apologize for his O-H-F-U last year on stage at the Big Ten Championship. “That was uncharacteristic of me. I’ve been thinking a lot about it and I’m sorry to you and Ohio State.” 👏👏 (📽️ @joenuge)

Stan Musial goes at the top for a reason that is almost too neat. He finished with 3,630 hits, and they split exactly 1,815 at home and 1,815 on the road. You cannot plan a number like that. Nobody has ever tried to. It is an accident of arithmetic sitting on top of a career that was never accidental. Three MVP awards sit next to it, and he is still somehow the third or fourth name people reach for when they start listing the great outfielders. He is never the first answer and he has never been the wrong one. Part of that is geography. The rest is temperament. He played his entire career in St. Louis, he never chased attention, and he retired in 1963, just before national television started making stars out of everybody. Oscar Charleston at six and Pop Lloyd at ten are lost for a much harder reason, and nothing about their placement here is close to neat. Whose greatness gets lost the most?

So umpires are getting scrutinized and lambasted for missing pitches an 1/8” of an inch to an inch off the plate that really isn’t the plate as MLB only counts the back half of home plate. Imagine being told you are wrong by a computer that the pitch you called a strike because it caught the front half of the plate is actually a ball. Then getting crap from all the younger, nerdy generation because it’s so EZ to tell if a pitch is a strike at 100 mph or a ball from your fucking couch. Get a grip people. They won’t call the real zone because hitters would struggle more than they do now. Imagine that.

Incredible! Also, if you want to see how, in large part, he lasted so long (aside from talent), search up his leg workouts on YouTube. This cat worked hard at it!

American healthcare is a slow-motion robbery and we've all just accepted it. You pay hundreds a month for insurance you can barely use. You pay a deductible before it even kicks in. You wait weeks, sometimes months, to see a doctor who gives you 7 minutes, doesn't look up from the screen, and bills you $400 for it. Then the insurance company denies the claim anyway. People are rationing insulin. People are starting GoFundMes for cancer treatment. People are skipping the ER because an ambulance ride costs more than their rent. We pay more than any country on earth and die younger. Nobody's coming to fix it. The system isn't broken. It's working exactly how it was designed to: for everyone except you

"Alex you’ve been around the majors for quite a few years, right?" "Right." "You also once wore a St. Louis Cardinals uniform, didn’t you?" "Right." "Did St. Louis fans boo Stan Musial ever, after he was a Cardinals star for as many as 16 years?" "They did." "Did Musial ever publicly criticize the fans?" "No." Did he ever refuse to answer the fans applause with a tip of his cap?" "No." Interview with St. Louis Cardinals coach Alex Grammas. "I’ll tell you the only disappointment Stan Musial had here in St. Louis. I was here. One night, they booed him. As the Lord is my judge. And the next day, a group of fans took an ad out in the paper and publicly apologized." Vin Scully. Stan Musial committed two errors, went hitless for the second night in row. Musial was booed when he stepped to the plate in 8th inning. A wave of cheers gradually drowned out the boo`s. The next day, St. Louis fans bought space in local papers and apologized. "A Public Apology to STAN MUSIAL." For the thousands of us who were shame-faced by the thoughtlessness of a few spectators at Wednesday’s game, please accept our apologies. We are certain that even now those who took part in the demonstration regret their actions. For to you, Stan Musial, we owe our gratitude for giving us many years of fine sportsmanship and superb play. St Louis and the nation will always acclaim you as the Greatest Player of Our Era. We look forward to seeing “The Man – the Best Man,” for years to come.” The ad was purchased and paid for by employees of the, 'Rio Syrup Company'. August 1956. "All you ever hear is Bench, Munson and Fisk. Nobody ever talks about Ted Simmons. He’s the most underrated catcher. He’s never got the recognition he deserves. But where can you find a catcher that can do all the things Simmons can do? He hits better than any of them and calls a great game. And who else in the league can catch as many games as he does?" Mgr. Chuck Tanner. "There are things about some professional athletes that I cannot stand, the pretense, the egos, the pomposity, the greed." Retired with more RBI than Johnny Bench, more runs scored than Gary Carter: More hits than Carlton Fisk, Higher batting average than Yogi Berra. Ted Simmons.

There's an old African proverb: Every morning, a gazelle wakes up knowing it must run faster than the lion, or it will die. Every morning, a lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter if you're the lion or the gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running. Life doesn't reward those who sit idle. Whether you're chasing a dream or fighting to survive, motion is non-negotiable. Stop waiting for perfect conditions. Stop waiting for permission. The sun is up. Start running.

Just checking in because I was dozing late during Friday’s game. Did power-tripping umpire Doug Eddings attempt to overturn Iván Herrera’s game winning home run? Given his disgraceful and unprofessional conduct in Friday’s competition, I’m surprised Eddings didn’t nullify the go-ahead run by ruling Herrera failed to touch home plate. There’s no accountability for umpires. In fact, this clown can count on another postseason assignment as a reward. This dude has a history. But he’s empowered and can keep doing whatever he wants to do.

Boomers: “We paid for college working summers.” Tuition in 1980: $800/year Minimum wage: $3.10 = 258 hours. One summer. Tuition now: $29,600 Minimum wage: $7.25 = 4,083 hours. Two full-time YEARS. It’s not work ethic. It’s math.

Beef Cattle currently cost $2000’ish for a calf at 500lbs. You have to feed it 25 lbs of hay per day for 30 months when it is ready to harvest. That’s (9,100 lbs / 900 lbs per bale, for 30 months) 304 bales total at a cost of $1,700. NO OTHER costs, I’m into the cow for $3,700 at 1400lbs full grown. I gross approx 450 lbs of meat. Thats $8.23 cents a pound., in the box. In this equation there are: No slaughter costs No operating costs No vet/transport costs No land/property taxes/insurances No upkeep No diesel No seed for the fields No fencing No labor, no profit for us working 365 days a year. (Yes, cows eat on holidays) Nothing!! For sake of argument, let’s say all these above costs are offset by selling my “premium cuts”, (which isn’t even close….BUT….lets just say for this exercise, it did. $8.22 a pound. Now: Please tell me how ground beef I can buy for $7-8 in the store with that retail store making a profit? They have to keep their doors open to. Let’s call it a 25% profit margin (and that’s LOW). That’s them buying ground at $5/$6. I’ll let y’all form your own conclusions about how this is done. You CUT corners. Period, end of story. Ain’t no other way round it. Next time you buy beef, remember this very basic math and ask yourself what exactly you are putting in your body for $7-8 bucks. Do yourself a favor and establish a relationship with your local rancher/farmer that you KNOW doesn’t cut corners AND works their brains out 365 days a year just trying to do the right thing to better their community. 🙏🥩🇺🇸

Stan Musial and Albert Pujols never had a season with 100 or more strikeouts. ➡️ Stan's highest total was 46 in 1962 (age 41) ➡️ Albert's highest total was 93 in 2001 (age 21 - rookie) and 2017 (age 37) How lucky were we to have them wear the iconic Cardinals uniform? #STLCards
