Sir Timothy John Paul Platt Monday, 4th Baronet of Carrickfergus Philanthropist, faithful Anglican, born on Christmas Eve and baptised at Saint Nicholasโ€™ Church, Carrickfergus; Fuรพorc Grand Runemaster; philologist and grammarian; enthusiastic collector of Great Britain stamps and Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London; a cricket dabbler who has a particular weakness for tea time; MCC member and proud Gloucestershire CCC supporter. A ghost-haunter, much acquainted with the Matter of Britain, though especially with its folk hero and central figure, King Arthur; a Holy Grail seeker born in Ulster and currently living somewhere amongst the crystal lakes of Cumbria, in the North West of England. Even though he may not have found the Grail yet, he has certainly learnt to strike down many a dragon along the way. A moneyed dandy who refuses to leave Blighty except for strictly recreational purposes. A man drifting through life quite convinced that the world would improve considerably if only it obeyed his wardrobe. His motto: PROUD TO BE CONFUSED. wattpad.com/user/TimothyMondโ€ฆ

Autumn has long begun its quiet innings. The boundary ropes are gathered, the covers folded, and the last few leaves drift across the outfield where, only weeks ago, leather met willow beneath a generous sun. The pavilion grows still; the tea tastes a little lonelier. We bid farewell to another cricketing summer. Somewhere beyond the winter, spring is already preparing its first delivery. Until then, dear friends, we shall miss the sound of the game. #Cricket

One night. One extraordinary instrument. Four young minds. A sound from heaven itself. Decades later, I still wonder whether what we lose is ever truly goneโ€”and whether, beyond the reach of time, the conversation may yet resume. #music #heaven #glass

There are acquisitions one makes out of necessity, and others one makes because, occasionally, life ought to be allowed a little ceremony. I have recently welcomed a rather handsome addition to my horological collection: the Bremont Terra Nova 35mm Jumping Hour, in burgundy. There is something particularly gratifying about seeing British horology assert itself with such distinction. @Bremont represents a welcome continuation of Britain's remarkable watchmaking inheritance: engineering discipline, mechanical ingenuity and an appreciation of design that favours character over ostentation. The Terra Nova 35mm Jumping Hour is a splendid example. Its 904L steel construction, automatic BC634 calibre and beautifully executed burgundy dial demonstrate that British watchmaking need not borrow its confidence from anywhere. I have always admired the British instinct for combining technical accomplishment with understated elegance. Bremont reminds us that this tradition is very much alive. One does not need to shout the hour when one has mastered the art of making it jump. A rather pleasing British achievement, if you ask me. #horology #watchmaking #BritishHorology #UK #BritishCraftmanship

When there is a Junkanoo in town, itโ€™s best to join inโ€ฆ Of souse, the traditional Caribbean Junkanoo has its origins in the โ€œgreat sufferingโ€ of the past as the King said yesterday about slavery. In the 1700s, slaves organised them to keep alive their west African culture and stage a subtle protest against the plantation owners who enslaved them. This festival was organised to celebrate the visit to The Bahamas of its Head of State.

It is sheer lunacy that there are debates over the Poppy. In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, ย ย ย ย That mark our place; and in the sky ย ย ย ย The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, ย ย ย ย Loved and were loved, and now we lie, ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw ย ย ย ย The torch; be yours to hold it high. ย ย ย ย If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย In Flanders fields.
