Today marks the 100th anniversary of opening of the Second International Congress of Eugenics, held at the American Museum of Natural History in NY. It was attended by a lot of respectable scientists, including two scientists of music. Here is a snippet from the opening address:

Fantastic deep-dive by @christinezhang and @Claire_Bushey into the acute inequality embedded into US vaccine rollout.
In city after city, vaccines are going to wealthy white neighbourhoods, while cases and deaths mount in poorer, majority-minority areas.
āThereās that old saying: every map of Chicago is a map of racial segregation,ā said demographer @robparal. āThe biggest issue is that access to resources in the US, and certainly in Chicago, continues to be determined by race.ā ft.com/content/7b0db882-a369⦠via @financialtimes

Expletives aside, you're spot on. People need to start taking this seriously. It's really simple. These health leaders are essentially begging people to care enough to put a freaking mask on š·

This is the sort of thing that, if it were being implemented nation-wide, would be a game-changer for schools. But it requires access to testing, resources, managerial competence, political will. So....

So while there are still a lot of open questions, I'd go so far as to say there isn't actually much of a debate across disciplines over whether short-range aerosol transmission occurs and I'd really like it if we could stop fueling this exhausting narrative. /end rant

All point bulletin to get this fixed immediately.
I had hoped it was a glitch, but no...The @CDCgov hospital capacity dashboard has gone dark. @CDCDirector has said CDC still has access to the data but apparently the public no longer does.

Also, be wary of anecdotal stories about people getting "re-infected". Some may be true. Some may be false positives or people that were sick the whole time. COVID is weird; the immune system is weird. Things that *can* happen aren't necessarily *common*.

The @voxdotcom article is a perfect example of doing what @BillHanage and I wrote in Feb. would cause trouble with COVID-19: conflating "x is possible" with "x is common." blogs.scientificamerican.comā¦. Most would expect some reinfections: q is how often, how severe, how contagious?
