βThus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.β

Iβm ethnically Jewish. Is Blake Callens referring to the Jews when he refers to my βantichrist cohortβ? Uh-oh.

"It was he [Servetus] whom that faithful minister of Christ, Master Bucer of holy memory, in other respects of a mild disposition, declared from the pulpit to be worthy of having his bowels pulled out, and torn to pieces." β John Calvin
Can somebody tell me what @jvfesko means by the following:
βThe covenant Lord, Yahweh, creates humans with the material cause of the covenant of works.β
"Christ did not come to bring me [to] peace [with others] when he showed me his truth."
ββ Richard Baxter
βSurveying eighteenth-century developments, Alasdair Raffe takes issues with the notion of an βinevitable drift to Arminianism among Presbyteriansβ as a result of the βpowerful supportβ among Dissenters for βthe Baxterian systemβ: βThe idea of a slippery slope towards heterodoxy was β¦ part of the evangelical reading of Presbyterian historyβ: βPresbyteriansβ, in Andrew C. Thompson (ed.), The Oxford history of dissenting traditions, II: The long eighteenth century, c. 1689-c. 1828, Oxford 2018, 11-29 at pp. 19-21.β

A brief defence of the orthodoxy of Richard Baxter on justification, with support from Reformed theologians Daniel Chamier and Joshua Placeus. π§΅
According to Chamier, covenant conditions are antecedent or consequent. Antecedent conditions are the foundation of the contract.Β 1/8
"I do not say that sincerity lies in the degree of any act in itself considered, as if God has promised salvation to us if we love him so much, or up to such a height, considered absolutely. But it is in the degree considered comparatively, as to God compared with other things, and as other objects or commanders stand in competition with him; and so it is in the prevalence of the act or habit against all contraries."

- That we may render unto God the obedience which he requires, or on
account of the command of God.
- That we may thereby testify our faith, and be assured of its existence in us by the fruits which we produce in our lives. βEvery good tree bringeth forth good fruitββ¦It is by our good works, therefore, that we know that we possess true faith, because the effect is not without its own proper cause, which is always known by its effect; so that if we are destitute of good works and new obedience, we are hypocrites, and have an evil conscience instead of true faith.
- That we may be assured of the fact that we have obtained the forgiveness of sins through Christ, and that we are justified for his sakeβ¦That we may be assured of our election and salvation.
- That we may escape temporal and eternal punishment. "Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire." "If ye live after the flesh ye shall die."
- That we may obtain from God those temporal and spiritual rewards, which, according to the divine promise, accompany good works both in this and in a future life. βGodliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.β (1 Tim. 4:8.) And if God did not desire that the hope of reward, and the fear of punishment should be moving causes of good works, he would not use them as arguments in the promises and threatenings which he addresses unto us in his word.
