Incredible. I did not believe I would see this, but here it is:
EU ban on transactions with Russian Central Bank has just been published in the OJ.
Hell just froze over.
Mili Państwo, pierwsza dama USA Melania Trump zaprosiła do Białego Domu specjalnego wysłannika Putina, Kiriła Dmitriewa.
Apeluję do wszystkich liderów politycznych: przeprowadźmy reset konstytucyjny!

Ask not "why would Donald lift sanctions on Russia sovereign wealth fund".
Instead ask "how big is the bribe Donald is getting for lifting the sanctions"
Dokładnie tak. 👊
I agree. To return to the negotiating table as a participant rather than an appetiser, Europe must escalate: create a problem whose resolution requires its involvement.
The obvious starting point is to confiscate Russia’s financial assets frozen in Europe and use them to support Ukraine’s defence of the inviolability of Europe’s borders. Europe would then hold a decisive stake in any financial settlement - and a seat that Washington and Moscow could no longer simply arrange between themselves.
I think at this point it should be abundantly clear that Witkoff and Kushner are dangerous and hostile to the national and security interests of Poland and numerous Central European member states.
"Our model is not Belarus, but Poland".
🇺🇦 🇺🇲 The confrontation inside Trump's Ukraine peace negotiations is now coming into focus.
Le Monde reports that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner spent nearly three hours pitching Ukraine's presidential chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, a postwar economic arrangement built around restoring Russian oil and gas flows to Europe through Ukrainian pipelines.
The meeting took place on October 9 at the Shell Bay golf club in Florida.
Witkoff presented the proposal as a regional prosperity plan: Ukraine would collect transit revenues, Europe would receive cheaper energy, and Russia would regain access to commercial routes disrupted by the war.
Budanov saw something fundamentally different. According to a witness cited by Le Monde, he objected that the arrangement would recreate Ukraine's dependence on Moscow.
“Our model is not Belarus, but Poland!” he reportedly replied.
The meeting was interrupted, and Budanov called Zelensky.
When talks resumed, news arrived that Trump had announced a separate agreement with Putin involving Russian diesel. Le Monde reports that an irritated Witkoff then demanded that the Ukrainians accept the arrangement and stop striking Russian oil refineries, arguing that the attacks endangered the wider world.
A source familiar with the Ukrainian delegation described its members as exceptionally distressed by the encounter.
The account adds a revealing dimension to the commercial negotiations we have been tracking. The proposed Lukoil asset sale, Novatek's involvement in an Alaska LNG venture, the broader US-Russia list of business opportunities reported by the Financial Times, and now the proposed restoration of Russian energy transit through Ukraine all point to the prominence of energy deals in Washington's diplomatic approach.
These are separate proposals, with different participants and legal circumstances. But Le Monde's reporting exposes the strategic disagreement underlying them.
For Witkoff, restoring commercial flows appears to be part of the mechanism for producing a peace settlement. For Budanov, according to the account, those same flows threaten to restore Moscow's economic leverage over Ukraine.
The reported exchange also raises a question about sequencing: why was Kyiv being pressed to stop attacking Russian refineries while Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure?
Le Monde's reconstruction relies on accounts of a private meeting. The reported exchanges have not been independently confirmed by the participants.

As discussions about a possible Trump–Putin–Xi summit resurface, it is worth revisiting a memorandum prepared by Professor Richard Pipes for President Ronald Reagan in May 1982.
Pipes explained what Soviet leaders sought to achieve through summits with American presidents - and under what conditions Washington should agree to such meetings.
A remarkably relevant and timeless lesson in how to deal with Putin's Russia. Diplomacy requires more than a willingness to talk. It requires a clear understanding of what the other side hopes to gain.

"Washington, May 14, 1982
Summits with Soviet Leaders
Soviet leaders are keen on summits with U.S. Presidents and for good reason. They feel confident they will come out ahead in such encounters because:
- their government has greater continuity than ours and therefore greater store of expertise in international affairs;
- well-publicized summits arouse expectations in free societies which enable Moscow, by manipulating Western opinion, to exert pressure on their opposite numbers for unreciprocated concessions.
They further favor summits because they afford them the opportunity to size up the President as a person and as a statesman.
Experience indicates that U.S.-Soviet summits, from Roosevelt’s Yalta to Nixon’s Moscow, have generally turned out to the disadvantage of the United States. Still, inasmuch as every U.S. President since 1933 has personally met with his Soviet counterpart, it will be difficult for you to reject a summit altogether. A full-fledged summit, however, should take place only if the following conditions are met:
- Moscow demonstrates by deeds rather than words that it is prepared to negotiate seriously.
- The groundwork is well prepared beforehand so that you discuss concrete agenda items and do not become embroiled in longwinded ideological disputes of the kind that Khruschev lured Kennedy into in Vienna in 1961 and which invariably end in the hardening of respective positions.
A good model to follow in this matter is President Eisenhower who had given it much thought. In 1953, after Stalin’s death President Eisenhower came under great pressure from our Allies (especially Britain) and the State Department to hold a summit with G. Malenkov, Stalin’s immediate successor.
In his memoirs, Eisenhower tells why he resisted these pressures. He reviews the disappointing experiences of Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt with summit meetings and says: “I was . . . not willing to meet with Communist leaders unless there was some likelihood that the confrontation would produce results acceptable to the peoples of the West”. I developed a stock answer to any question about a possible Summit. I would not go to a Summit merely because of friendly words and plausible promises by the men in the Kremlin; actual deeds giving some indication of a Communist readiness to negotiate constructively will have to be produced before I would agree to such a meeting.”
He was rewarded for his firm stand with a Soviet troop withdrawal from Austria. This is a good principle to keep in mind as the Russians increase their pressure for a summit. It would be best to have no summit this year: but if one is to be held the Russians should be required to demonstrate their good will by such actions as acceptance of our “zero option”, withdrawal from Afghanistan or lifting of the martial law in Poland."

To bring RUS gas to EU, you need much more than just AfD victory in DE. There is a double ban on RUS gas, one of them in binding EU law. You'd need either a whole series of EC temporary waivers (won't happen nor be enough) or permanent EU law change (Council & EP majority needed)
Another sign of the talks going nowhere: U.S. negotiators are talking past Russia, Europe and even Trump. There is no way for them to offer up European agreement on intensifying the gas trade absent peace in Ukraine. Russia has been trying to restart Nord Stream since Ukrainians blew it up; it won’t happen unless 1. The war stops 2. AfD wins absolute majority. Existing consortia failed to get the Trump admin, to issue sanction waiver. Even if shale gas champion Trump would do it, EU sanctions remain and Germany needs to agree and certify. Negotiators spend energy discussing abstractions while achieving nothing of the positions demanded by the Kremlin and the WH, let alone Kyiv or Europe.
