Not a bike lane in sight, but I bet one more lane oughta do it.

Older folks: “Why don’t kids go outside anymore?” The outside they built:
One crazy paradigm I think about a lot is the one where older people constantly talk about how they used to play in the street all the time, but then are unable to connect the dots as to why that's not a thing anymore.

Stay tuned ... ours will be coming soon 🚲
This weekend, we installed new Even Better Bike Lane protection on S Dearborn St between 10th Ave S and Rainier Ave S. These are often called "Toronto-style" barriers (though we call them extruded curbs).

@_NickMorrison, we're working with Engineeting to look at the mini jersey barrier for Prospect. Have been chatting with Hamilton staff and looking at specs. I am liking this public art suggestion tbh!

We have our first Integrated Mobility Plan (IMP)! This will guide how we move in and through our community for the next 30 years. The IMP final report was presented and unanimously approved by City Council on Nov. 14. For more information, please visit burlington.ca/IMP.

Saw this first hand in Portugal the other week …
The most prosperous cities are filled with people, not cars. People spend money, not cars.

🚴🏻 🌾 We are thrilled to see the Bike Lane Reconstruction wrapping up on Plains Road! The road is coming back together beautifully. Motorists - Be aware of the cyclists as the community gets used to the new lanes and procedures. @cityburlington @KelvinGalbraith

As our kids go #BackToSchool, never forget that we ARE the traffic that we’re using as an excuse. If more walked, biked or rode transit to school, it would erase a massive number of car trips each day, and our kids would be safer, healthier and better at school. Spread the word.

#HamOnt, ‘the ambitious city,’ is the opposite of NIMBYism - local Councillors want to grow within their existing urban boundary, but the Province - strangely, unnecessarily - is insisting on sprawl. This is an inversion of what typically happens. Local politicians in Hamilton want infill and density - they want to build a thriving city, not a car-choked environmental disaster with housing in wetlands and on farmland. But the Province, against their wishes, is pushing to open up the Greenbelt. Why? cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/…

The prospect of the childless city - sounds inhumane. But this prospect is very real. If we choose to invest in roads and cars (ahem Toronto, a $450 million parking structure on the waterfront; a billion $ highway rebuild that serves 3% of the population) instead of parks, green, safe streets and affordable housing...an inhumane city is what we will get. Cities make choices. What will we choose - a dying city where young people and families leave? Or a city for people? ft.com/content/31d9e4b7-a0d8…

The country's current pedestrian death crisis is entirely preventable. We need street redesigns that slow down traffic + smaller, safer cars to stop more deaths. Listen to TA's @miatkowski on @Freakonomics: freakonomics.com/podcast/why…
