NEW ANALYSIS: Tucker Carlson's nuclear strike warning seems to be drawing all the headlines right now, and in many ways, rightfully so.
But it's missing the point in my opinion.
Undoubtedly, a nuclear strike against Pickaxe Mountain would open up Pandora's Box on the use of nuclear weapons, with no shortage of countries that would be itching to use them. As a result, this should certainly be condemned.
However, in my own assessment, I think that the LIKELIHOOD that President Trump uses nuclear weapons against Iran is fairly low. Possible? Certainly. Likely? No.
But there IS something that is highly likely, and while not as truly existential to humanity, would come with enormous consequences... And that is the maintenance of the current status quo in the Iran War, or any continuation of the war whatsoever at this point.
In anything short of a return to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding, or a removal of American forces and the blockade from the region, there WILL be global economic devastation that would rival the Great Depression. This isn't "unlikely", this is HIGHLY likely, and I think that it is something that is being sidelined right now as a result of this nuclear warning.
There is no credible argument that Iran can escalate across the Gulf at will. Look at how easily Ansar Allah (Houthis) are penetrating Saudi airspace and blasting energy infrastructure and airports, including the Aramco Headquarters in Dhahran. Simultaneously, Iran is striking moving vessels, under US air cover, with multiple Marines on board in the Strait of Hormuz... And your argument is Iran CAN'T devastate the Gulf if forced to?
As of now, there are effectively four options in the Iran War for President Trump to pursue. Three are catastrophic, and one is not.
1) First use nuclear strike on Pickaxe Mountain - Catastrophic
2) Comprehensive bombing campaign on economic and civilian infrastructure in Iran that would warrant immediate and devastating Iranian retaliation - Catastrophic
3) A continuation of the current status quo, which if you believe would eventually risk the collapse of Iranian society, Iran will respond and we can't defend - Catastrophic
4) Make the necessary concessions to Iran that President Trump AGREED to under the MOU at Versailles, or lift the blockade and remove our troops from the region and reset the negotiations under non-aggressive circumstances for Iran that do warrant retaliation - NOT CATASTROPHIC
Whether it be the first use of nuclear weapons, whether it be a comprehensive bombing campaign, or whether it merely be a continuation of the current status quo, there is ZERO scenario in which there is not enormous and catastrophic consequences imposed on all of humanity.
Except an end to war.
Tucker Carlson's nuclear warning should be taken very seriously, but don't miss the forest for the trees here:
All of this is catastrophic unless President Trump deescalates this conflict.

The use of a nuclear weapon in Iran may not destroy the mountain, but it destroys an entire model of international relations.
As has been floated in recent days, Netanyahu has been working toward an operation with tactical nuclear missiles against Iran.
This would be different from using a bomb like the ones we saw in Japan, which were designed as strategic weapons to destroy entire cities.
Tactical warheads have a lower destructive yield, usually between 1 and 50 kilotons.
They are designed to eliminate specific military targets on the battlefield, bases, ports, or armored columns, without triggering an instantaneous global apocalypse.
Most of these tactical missiles are, in theory, meant to detonate in the air, hundreds of meters above their targets, avoiding ground contact and leaving radiation that dissipates within weeks in the affected area.
The problem is that the plan reported by Tucker Carlson would involve detonating the Pickaxe mountain, as Donald Trump also once promised. That would be a radioactive catastrophe of a different order from an airburst hundreds of meters above a region, something that already strikes me as absurd enough.
All of this is terrifying, but the use of a tactical nuclear weapon would mean changing the paradigms on which international relations are built.
The use of tactical missiles and direct attacks against a regional power like Iran would redefine traditional concepts of state sovereignty, respect for borders, and, above all, the logic of global nuclear deterrence.
In international law and relations between states, territorial sovereignty is the fundamental pillar. A direct attack with tactical missiles would transform that dynamic and bring an end to traditional red lines.
It would demonstrate that possessing a robust conventional army or a vast territory no longer prevents invasion or direct bombardment by technologically superior forces.
This would consolidate the idea that states can violate the sovereignty of others on the basis of anticipated threats, a precedent we already live with, but one that would reach another level with nuclear weapons.
The most dangerous shift would occur in how countries view nuclear weapons. Historically, deterrence works on the premise that the cost of attacking a country is too high.
If Iran, a country on the threshold of nuclear development, is attacked in a conventional and tactical manner, the geopolitical message would first and foremost be one of encouragement to proliferate.
This scenario would turn the global board into a far more unpredictable environment, where fear and the rush to acquire weapons of mass destruction would replace diplomacy and economic containment.

‼️ @Shelby_Wilder from Kyiv on @NEWSMAX as the channel covers the evacuation from Oleshky:
"Newsmax crew is in Oleshky to be independent observers. But we have to make no mistake to give context to the situation.
Russia is using this humanitarian operation as a propaganda opportunity. Moscow wants to portray itself as the rescuer of civilians in a city that it occupies. One it has destroyed and plunged into this humanitarian crisis. And we need to be clear: Russia controls what we are going to be allowed to see.
Moscow appears to have brought in numerous Russian media compared to just the one American news outlet. Because of that, our team is not is not going to have an unrestricted picture of life under Russian occupation. The people that we could speak to very well could be under duress, and Russian authorities are showing us what they want the world to see. That is essential when we're going to be evaluating the first images and reports that are coming out of Oleshky.
But nonetheless, the fact that civilians are being evacuated and offer this humanitarian aid this is historic. This has been brokered by the White House, and this is a significant point in the war. We're seeing a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine continue to hold to enable this operation to take place. We are again tracking the developments coming out of Oleshky today. All eyes are on this ceasefire, and we will certainly keep you posted."

I want to once again draw your attention to a small animal shelter run by our friends, Ukrainian war veterans, just outside Kyiv. They could always use a little help from kind-hearted people: food, medicine, supplies, and all sorts of other necessities.
If you’re in the mood to do a little good deed today, here’s a wonderful opportunity.
I firmly believe that animals deserve just as much warmth, kindness, and care as we humans do, especially during a war, when looking after animals in Ukraine is becoming increasingly difficult.
And of course, this is 100% legit and safe.
Here’s how you can help (and while you’re at it, give Volodymyr a follow on Twitter. He’s quite a character in Ukraine’s military community and is always cracking hilarious jokes about life and the army).

What I have just witnessed in the children's inpatient wards at hospitals is beyond words. No human being could bear to witness it or even imagine the scale of the catastrophe patients are living through there.
Patients are being denied their most basic rights to medical treatment! There are not enough medications, no medical services, no electricity, and none of the basic necessities a human being needs to stay alive.
There are not enough beds for patients. Three patients are forced to share a single bed because of the overwhelming number of medical cases. Some patients cannot even find a place to lie down and are left sitting on the floor and in the corridors, amid the terrifying spread of viruses and diseases, including meningitis and others.
What is even more painful and horrifying is that most medical equipment is completely out of order! Oxygen monitors are not working, heart rate monitors and other essential medical devices have stopped functioning entirely, as if patients' lives no longer deserve even the most basic means of care and life-saving treatment.
Patients are left relying on first aid alone, with no adequate resources to diagnose the diseases and viruses ravaging their bodies, determine what they are suffering from, or even provide them with appropriate treatment.
This is not merely a deterioration in healthcare services; it is the complete collapse of Gaza's healthcare system, where patients' lives are left hanging in the balance between pain, fear, and death at every moment.
Please, I beg you، Do not remain silent in the face of this suffering! Speak out, spread the word, and share our voices with the world. Your words could help save a human life!

"Sześć lat. Właśnie w tym miesiącu skończyła sześć. A jednak tamten dzień, kiedy ją znalazłem, wyrył się w mojej pamięci z ostrością rzeczy, których nie da się zapomnieć. Była maleńka, drżała, z wciąż zamkniętymi oczami. Może miała zaledwie jeden dzień. Pamiętam, że pomyślałem: „Nie dożyje rana”. A jednak przeżyła. Każdy dzień to dar. Budzi mnie cichymi nawoływaniami, bawi się sznurówkami od butów, kradnie przekąski z miną kogoś, kto już wie, że mu się wybaczy. Podąża za mną wszędzie — ciekawa i uważna. Siada mi na ramieniu, gdy robię kawę, a wieczorem układa się na mojej piersi. Dziobem poprawia mi brodę, a potem spokojnie zasypia. W takich chwilach czuję wdzięczność, której nie potrafię ubrać w słowa. Przed nią było całe niebo. A jednak wybrała, by zostać.

Years of increasing discontent in French schools have come to a boiling point
I do not know how things are in other countries. But in Denmark, when I follow the coverage of the unrest in France on our two public-service television broadcasters, the explanation I keep hearing is this:
France has spent years cutting back on upper secondary education. Classes are overcrowded. Add teacher shortages and excessive centralisation, and young people take to the streets.
That is only half the truth. And when you peddle half the truth, you are, as we know, also peddling half a lie.
Here is what can be pieced together from the French quality press and the official figures.
France’s public spending per upper-secondary pupil is above the OECD average. That should complicate any account which treats a lack of money as the whole explanation.
There is some truth in the criticism: some lycées have large classes, and the French education system is centralised and bureaucratic.
One example worth mentioning is Parcoursup, the higher education admissions platform. I suspect it would be a strong contender in any international competition for bureaucratic opacity and unnecessary stress.
But, as I have already said, this is only half the truth.
The other half concerns what teachers and school leaders are being asked to endure.
I admit that this is anecdotal. But recently, a math teacher from Metz described in a long and serious post on X how the teachers simply burn out at the most problematic high schools. We need to dig deeper into this constant attrition of skilled high school teachers.
Why are schools being left to carry so much of the burden?
French politicians are no different from politicians elsewhere in Europe.
They want as many young people as possible to complete upper secondary education and go on to higher education. For the usual reasons: education is supposed to break the cycle of inherited disadvantage, while higher education is supposed to raise productivity. I find those arguments only partly convincing when these benefits are treated as automatic consequences of expanding access.
In my view, France faces a problem we also know in Denmark: schools are being asked to compensate for failures of integration and basic socialisation that extend far beyond the classroom.
The danger is that, instead of institutions civilising their pupils, disruptive pupils end up barbarising the institutions.
No school can function properly if it is expected to tolerate young people who turn up unprepared, have no interest in learning and spend their time causing trouble and destroying the learning environment.
It is hardly surprising that such conditions can wear teachers down. They cannot reasonably be expected to shoulder the entire responsibility for correcting mistakes that the French political elite has spent decades making.
La France Insoumise and other radical organisations have encouraged the protests and blockades. Mélenchon has called for non-violence. However, this formal appeal for moderation appears symbolic when the LFI mayor of Saint-Denis simultaneously allows himself to be photographed among demonstrators and calls their actions justified.
Le Point has meanwhile reported on mobilisation by Étudiants musulmans de France and its cooperation with RED Jeunes. The former is linked to the Muslim Brotherhood milieu in a French Interior Ministry report; the two organisations helped establish the anti-Islamophobia collective Génération EDR, whose links to the antifascist group La Jeune Garde are also described by Le Point.
That is the kind of convergence I mean by Islamogauchism in practice.
The flags also deserve attention. Palestinian, Moroccan and Algerian flags have appeared at some of the protests, including scenes of disorder. To me, this is another indication that, for some participants, the agenda extends beyond class sizes and school budgets.
We do not yet know the full picture. But what concerns me is the apparent convergence, within parts of this movement, of several forms of radicalism: Antifa activism. Decolonial ideology. Islamogauchism. Islamist networks that have learnt from the left to speak fluent woke.
That is why I do not think it entirely misplaced to speak of an “Islamogauchist intifada” when describing this radical current within the French protests.
The wider protest wave has already spread to Belgium and Italy.
The Danish public-service coverage I have seen gives me far too little of this side of the story.
Two questions: Is it the same elsewhere in the Western world? And if so, why?

EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph.
The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries.
‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement.
But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe.
The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown.
‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.

Tonight, imagine trying to sleep here.
You have just had surgery. Your body is weak. Perhaps you are a mother curled around newborn puppies, or a dog so thin there is almost nothing between your bones and the cold.
Above you is a high roof. Around you are open mesh walls. The same ventilation designed to protect hundreds of animals from Pakistan’s brutal summer heat will soon allow freezing winter air to sweep through their shelter.
And outside are our elderly, injured and recovering donkeys—aching joints, healing wounds and tired bodies facing the same bitter nights.
This is our first winter at Second Chance Sanctuary. We had to move here before construction was complete, and after struggling through our first summer, winter is now approaching faster than we can prepare.
Please picture just ONE animal tonight.
£8 can give a cat a warm bed.
£14 can give a dog a warm bed.
We also urgently need heaters, fuel and tarpaulins to close exposed areas before the severe cold arrives.
Our regular supporters have already stretched themselves enormously—some have sponsored five or six beds each. We cannot keep asking the same small circle to carry nearly 1,000 animals.
If you are seeing us for the first time, perhaps YOU could be the new person who gives one animal a warm place to sleep.
And if you cannot donate, please share this. Help this appeal reach someone we have never reached before.

Traitors in the White House
🔥 UPDATE:
Reuters reports the order to limit Starshield for Ukraine's military came from inside the White House. Two US officials and a Western official say Pentagon leaders received a message that the service needed to be slowed.
Overnight, terminals above 160 km/h lost their link and drones went blind while Russia kept striking Ukrainian cities.
Musk pointed at Washington, Washington pointed at SpaceX. Now officials say the throttle was pulled from the West Wing.
