This is observation, not a strategy.
Trading it requires tick data across the universe of stocks, intraday ATR + PDC live, an earnings calendar that doesn't miss names, and a scanner watching every minute.
We've been building that.
--END OF THREAD--
More research drops coming.
Two things that could kill this:
1. No baseline yet. This pattern might exist on any day for mega-caps, not just earnings. Control study running.
2. The 15% no-snap tail. Late peaks that hold into close = a coinflip AMC catalyst right after.
Where exactly does the snap fire?
For the large-extension cohort, when 30% retrace trips, the price is still about half a daily range from prior close.
Median ATR% at the snap bar: 50%.
Plenty of room left for the move to keep mean-reverting after the trigger.
Finding 5: behavior varies enormously by name.
Sticky (close-retrace 21–28%): AMZN, GOOG, AAPL, CRM
Reverters (56–97%): MSFT, NFLX, NVDA, META, NKE
AMZN/GOOG run ~2x harder than peers. MSFT median close-retrace: 97%.
Symbol selection isn't a tweak — it's the model.
Finding 4: once a peak is set, the snap fires fast.
Median 2 minutes from peak to a 30% retrace.
p75 = 11 minutes.
The exhaustion bar IS the signal. Wait 30 minutes after the peak and the move is mostly done.
Finding 3: peaks aren't where folklore says.
50% peak in the first 90 minutes — overnight pre-positioning hitting the open.
34% peak in the last 2 hours — the "hype into close" meme.
Only 15% midday.
The hype-into-close cliché is real. It's just not the only mode.
Finding 2: median peak is roughly half a daily range — but the upper tail is where the action is.
51% of observations exceed 50% of ATR.
16% exceed 100% of ATR.
In the large-extension subset (n=57), median close retrace = 39% of move.
Finding 1: the snap is the rule, not the exception.
85% of pre-earnings extensions retrace ≥30% from peak before close.
Even a 60% retrace threshold fires in 74% of events.
Only ~15% of moves run into the AMC report without unwinding.
It's earnings season so we pulled 96 mega-cap AMC earnings days over 2 years and asked one question:
When a name with sector weight extends during RTH before reporting after the close — how far does it run before the snap?
n=111 directional moves. 17 sector leaders. The shape is consistent. 🧵
So often our members wait YEARS to write a review. We are proud of the average membership tenure of our reviewers. Very few share their thoughts until they are well qualified to provide a review. Thank you Teja! It's been amazing watching you grow as a trader.

Final Thoughts
Most traders are stuck in the middle—caught between knowledge and chaos.
But mastery is earned layer by layer:
Build control.
Learn your style.
Execute with rhythm.
Filter ruthlessly.
Let the craft express itself through you.
🔺 Climb the pyramid. That’s where freedom lives.
Layer 5: SELF-ACTUALIZATION
Now the game slows down.
You trust your instincts.
You adapt.
You innovate.
Your strategy evolves with the market.
You might teach others, build tools, or automate parts of your workflow.
You create new plays from experience, not guesswork.
You’ve stopped being a trader who follows systems.
You’ve become someone who thinks in edge.
There’s no rush.
No fear.
Just clarity.
Layer 4: IDEA GENERATION & FILTERING
You’ve earned your edge.
Now, your greatest power is restraint.
At this level, you don’t chase every breakout.
You filter with brutal precision.
You might only take 1–2 trades per day.
But when you strike, it’s your setup, your plan, your moment.
Trading becomes 90% waiting, 10% execution.
You don't just know what you're looking for—you know exactly what to ignore.
This is where PnL stabilizes.
Not from doing more—but from doing less with intention.
Layer 3: EXECUTION MASTERY
Here’s where everything breaks…
or clicks.
You know what to do—but can you do it?
Can you not flinch when the trade is on?
Can you take the stop without hesitation?
Can you size down when you’re cold?
One of the most seasoned traders I know said this:
“Execution isn’t a battlefield. It’s a dance.
Sometimes you miss a step—just adjust and keep dancing.” - @TitusTrader
This is where you learn to move with the market.
Not force it. Not fear it.
Just flow.
Layer 2: TECHNICAL & STRATEGIC SKILLS
This is where most people think trading begins.
You learn how to:
1. Read candles and price structure
2. Use indicators in context
3. Understand catalysts and market behavior
But raw knowledge isn’t enough.
You have to translate that into a strategy—rules that match your psychology, lifestyle, and strengths.
The goal isn’t to trade like someone else.
It’s to build a process you’ll follow even when it stops being fun.
Layer 1: FOUNDATIONS
Before anything else:
✅ Emotional discipline
✅ Risk awareness
✅ Stable tools & environment
You don’t need to master price action yet.
You need to master yourself.
Most blown accounts aren’t from bad charts.
They’re from overtrading, revenge trading, and denial.
If you can’t sit on your hands, cut a loser, or stick to your max loss,
you’re not in the game. You’re just gambling with better branding.
Most traders chase setups before building a real foundation.
But mastery is a pyramid—each level builds on the last.
