Bill Oddie, what a lovely bloke. He wrote us a letter when we started making The Young Ones, wishing us the very best, and warning us against interference from higher up. He didn’t know anyone in the cast personally. It just came out of the blue. Lovely thing to do.

Am so sad to read that Bill Oddie has passed away. Although he later became equally famous as the BBC’s resident ornithologist, he had been a comedy hero of mine since my earliest days of watching television, as one of 'The Goodies'. The show was hugely influential on me: its glorious, go-for-broke silliness, almost like a kids’ companion to Monty Python, made it one of my earliest comedic touchstones. I loved Bill’s anarchic energy, musical brilliance and willingness to do absolutely anything for a laugh. And, it must be said, as the shortest member of the trio, he spoke to me. 'The Goodies' was always part of a direct line for me, from 'The Monkees', to 'Monty Python's Flying Circus', to 'The Young Ones', right up to our own 'Spaced', in terms of the wild freedom of the television format. I’ll never forget the giddy thrill of watching this opening sequence as a kid (the theme sung by Bill himself), and the resulting rush of total absurdity filling the box. Farewell to a true Goodie. RIP.

I’m very sad Bill Oddie has gone. He was sick for some time and I wrote to him. He auditioned me for The Pembroke Revue in 1963 and I stepped into his roles for The Edinburgh Festival when the Cambridge Footlights went to the West End. We watched England win the World Cup together at Wembley in ‘66. He was a very fine songwriter and I learned a lot from him. He came to France and is in my book. We even had Chelsea Season Tickets together. I miss him.

So we had a terrific crowd last night in Hobart and we gave ‘em a good show. Standing O’s and singalongs. Didn’t really expect such a reaction so thanks Hobart for surprising us and giving us such a warm reception. 0n to Canberra for tomorrow night. See ya there.

James Earl Jones, the prolific film, TV and theater actor whose resonant, unmistakable baritone was most widely known as the voice of “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader, died Monday. He was 93. bit.ly/3TkCdw4

Welcome to my world since they announced the character. Can’t wait to see it and the faces of the fans when I turn up to the conventions due to an admin error.

Yay for Team Capaldi. Peter and I are thrilled. Peter says he smiled but I don't believe him. In gratitude, we're making a new series with our action figures. We're in talks with Rachel T but she's too expensive after Star Beast. Sadly, Brian M has been poached by my wife.
