“Heroes” is the title track of David Bowie’s 1977 album “Heroes”, the second installment of his Berlin Trilogy. Although it reached only No. 24 on the UK Singles Chart upon its original release, the song gradually became one of Bowie’s signature works and later peaked at No. 12 in the UK following his death in 2016. Today it is widely regarded as one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. Inspired by a pair of lovers he saw from the Hansa Studio window near the Berlin Wall, Bowie transformed a private moment into a timeless anthem of hope and defiance. Visconti also devised an innovative recording technique using three microphones positioned at increasing distances from Bowie, with the farther ones gated so they only opened as his voice grew louder, creating the song’s dramatic emotional crescendo.
