“As United Bank for Africa, our focus is strongly on Africa because we believe that the future is Africa.”
My recent visit to Zambia was an opportunity to engage directly with our customers, listen to their experiences, understand their aspirations, and strengthen the relationships that remain at the heart of UBA.
Our presence across Africa is driven by a clear purpose. We are building a bank that understands the markets we serve, remains close to our customers, and plays a meaningful role in the continent’s growth. We carry the name United Bank for Africa with purpose, because we believe in Africa and in the enormous potential of its people, businesses, and communities.

I returned to the Defence Headquarters Abuja, once again. This time, I had the privilege of visiting the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to commend the officers and ratings of the Nigerian Navy for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation’s territorial waters, protecting critical national assets, and advancing Nigeria’s security.
The visit provided an opportunity to reaffirm UBA’s longstanding partnership with the Nigerian Navy.
Nigerian Navy remains on the institutions that all Nigerians should be proud of.
We remain steadfast in our committement to building partnerships that strengthen institutions, empower people, and contribute to national development.

At the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, I had the pleasure of meeting with Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, and Air Marshal S.K. Aneke, Chief of Air Staff, as we reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between UBA and two of Nigeria’s most important security institutions.
I commended the Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army; the Officers, Airmen and Airwomen of the Nigerian Airforce, the Officers and Crew of the Nigerian Navy; and all Security personnel who continue to play vital roles in safeguarding our nation and supporting national development.

UBA: 2025 Dividend Skip Is Temporary, ‘We’re Going After Defaulters’ for 2026 Return – Alawuba
UBA has a long history of dividend payments, with yields sometimes reaching double digits. We paid dividends consecutively from 2023 through the first half of 2025. However, the Central Bank of Nigeria gave banks a window to exit the forbearance regime, and UBA was one of the banks that did so. That required us to reclassify certain accounts in line with prudential guidelines. We made provisions of about ₦331 billion, which pushed our non-performing loan ratio above the threshold required for dividend payment.

It was a privilege to welcome the newly elected executives of the Association of Professional Women Bankers (APWB) to UBA House, led by their 10th Chairperson, Mrs. Rafiat Oluwatoyin Onitiri, FCIB, representing a new chapter of intentional, values driven leadership for professional women across Nigeria’s banking sector.
Our conversation reinforced something I deeply believe: women are not just participants in this industry but architects of its future. I am honoured to support the APWB’s mission and to walk alongside this generation of leaders as they build a legacy defined not by representation alone but by measurable and lasting impact across governance, innovation, talent development, and customer trust.
The work of building an inclusive, high performing industry begins with moments like this.

The transformation of our continent demands a strong and purposeful partnership between Africa’s public and private sectors. Only through such collaboration can we unlock the full potential of our people and resources.
At State House Nairobi, I received the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa and Heirs Holdings Group, Mr Tony Elumelu, and his delegation. Mr. Elumelu’s enduring belief that Africa’s private sector must play a central role in driving the continent’s development is exemplified through his commitment of $1 billion towards infrastructure development in Kenya.
This pledge is more than an act of financial investment; it is a testament to a shared vision for Africa’s future built on enterprise, innovation, and shared prosperity.
This partnership directly supports our transformation agenda, focusing on enhanced power generation, strengthened food security, and the expansion of our road and rail networks.
Together, we are shaping a new era of inclusive growth and sustainable development for Kenya and Africa.
