@UDLSOfficial What if we thought about a national sensation on driver licensing?
Let’s educate drivers and the public on proper licensing, testing, renewal and road safety responsibilities. A licensed driver should be a competent and responsible road user, not just a holder of a licence.

👷🏿♀️👷🏿♂️Strengthening Workers’ Safety across Road Projects.
Together with project partners, our teams recently conducted refresher Occupational Health and Safety training across the Koboko -Yumbe-Moyo project corridor.
Facilitated by @URRENO1 the project’s Road Safety Consultant, the section-by-section sessions equipped workers with practical knowledge on hazard identification, safe work procedures, use of protective equipment and prevention of incidents on site.
#PURPOSE: The trainings are essential not only for protecting workers, but also for safeguarding communities living and travelling along the project corridor.

🚨#DIRECTIVE: Hon. Fred Byamukama, the Minister for Works and Transport has announced IMMEDIATE measures to strengthen safety in bus operations following a meeting with bus operators & @PoliceUg this evening at the Ministry HQs.
📌For LONG-DISTANCE routes of more than 300Kms, a driver who completes a journey must be replaced for the return journey. The same driver should NOT drive back on the same route.
Traffic Police has been directed to apprehend those who disregard this requirement.
📌For SHORT-DISTANCE routes of less than 300Kms, a driver is allowed to drive to the destination and return once. After returning to where the journey started, that driver must stop for the day. The driver cannot undertake a third leg on the same day.
📌The Minister has also directed that DRIVER IDENTIFICATION badges must be prominently displayed inside buses, enabling passengers and enforcement officers to easily identify the driver operating the vehicle.
Bus operators have been urged to comply with these measures, which are aimed at reducing driver fatigue, and improving passenger safety on Uganda’s roads.

Replying to @HonByamukama
@HonByamukama has briefed Parliament on the state of Uganda’s road network, highlighting progress in road development, maintenance, and future investments.
Uganda’s national road network spans 159,561km and carries over 90% of the country’s cargo and passenger traffic. Although only 5.57% of the network is paved, maintenance performance remains strong, with 92% of paved roads and 77% of unpaved roads in fair-to-good condition, exceeding the targets of 90% and 75%, respectively.
@GovUganda recently completed nearly 300km of national roads. Works are also ongoing on 1,274.8km under upgrading, 854.6km under rehabilitation, and 30 bridges under construction.
With UGX 37.4 trillion invested in the road network over the years, @GovUganda is strengthening maintenance to safeguard these investments and ensure value for money.
Looking ahead to FY2026/27, 10 new national road upgrades are planned as Uganda continues to improve connectivity and support economic growth across the country.

I walked into Diamond Trust Bank on Kampala Road at 4.09pm, generated a PRN, paid the fees for renewal of my driving licence, took a boda and got at the @GovUganda Driving Licence office at Railways Grounds at 4.16pm, and after going through a series of swift processes, biometric data and photo capture, walked out of the place with a new driving permit at 4.31pm- a record 20 minutes to complete the entire process. And I did not ask for any special help from anyone--each officer was simply doing their work professionally to each person in the line, with no special or preferential treatment of anybody.
We don't have to benchmark from very far away when it comes to Government agencies that are efficient at what they do & service delivery. USPC is right before us

GOODWILL | Eliminating Project Delays
Communities in #Kayunga District have set a commendable example by VOLUNTARILY providing land to support construction of the 87km Kayunga–Bbaale–Galiraya Road.
This will minimise implementation bottlenecks, reduce project delays and accelerate delivery, demonstrating how community partnership can help fast-track common development goals.
We commended this commitment during an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) stakeholder engagement with district leaders where we committed to delivering the project safely, sustainably and responsibly.
