West Virginia seniors lose an estimated $19 million a year to fraud. That's money stolen from folk who have spent their lives working and saving. And it doesn't begin to account for the taxpayer dollars lost to fraud each year.
Earlier this week, @USAtty_Capito brought together nearly 20 federal, state, and local law enforcement officials and prosecutors at the Cabell County Courthouse in Huntington to discuss how we can better coordinate our efforts to combat fraud across #WV.
“We have a shared responsibility to protect West Virginians, safeguard taxpayer dollars, and hold those who commit fraud accountable,” Capito said.

We really enjoyed using a game of elder-fraud bingo as an innovative tool to educate seniors about common fraud scams as part of Operation Silver Sentinel.

Today, the U.S. Attorney's Office, in coordination with the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Inspector General (SBA‑OIG), announced new criminal prosecutions, arrests, indictments and civil recoveries related to COVID-19 relief fraud.
From June through today, the District of Oregon’s Government Fraud Task Force has brought 22 enforcement actions, involving more than $63 million in losses, and resulting in more than $15.8 million in recovered funds.
