Hot off the press: As TB continues to demand long and complex treatment regimens, @VivekRaoigib and his team at @IGIBSocial explored the potential of repurposing sertraline, an FDA-approved antidepressant, as an adjunct to standard TB therapy. The study shows that combining sertraline with frontline TB drugs significantly reduces bacterial burden and improves lung pathology,without compromising the drug pharmacokinetics.

FLSB expert seminar series continues with the first talk in 2026 by Dr. Vivek Rao from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB). Thrilled to host Dr. Rao who delivered an engaging talk on “Fighting TB inside out: metabolism as an Immune strategy”.
Starting with a brief historical perspective on tuberculosis (TB), he highlighted a compelling example of drug repurposing—the potential of the antidepressant sertraline to enhance the effectiveness of existing TB treatment regimen.
The seminar sparked curiosity about TB among students and served as a real source of motivation and inspiration for many.
