It’s estimated that the Protein Data Bank (PDB) cost around $13B to create. Alphafold was only possible because of it. If we want ML to solve biology, we should be funding the creation of databases and the development of new assay technologies. ML is nothing without data.

Hot off the press: As TB continues to demand long and complex treatment regimens, @VivekRaoigib and his team at @IGIBSocial explored the potential of repurposing sertraline, an FDA-approved antidepressant, as an adjunct to standard TB therapy. The study shows that combining sertraline with frontline TB drugs significantly reduces bacterial burden and improves lung pathology, without compromising the drug pharmacokinetics.

This talk was stunning, proteomics has made real progress and @labs_mann s talk was a master class in science
Matthias @labs_mann presenting at #scg2024 - impressive! And multiple single cell proteomics talks, it’s coming of age! Matthias predicts increased scaling in coming years, too. Let’s get ready with translation models.

Thinking that programming skills is enough to design a computational pipeline is equivalent to thinking knowing how to pipette is enough to design a complex molecular protocol. There are many pitfalls in computation and therefore many controls are needed.
