ALT This is Spotify. Spotify rips off artists. From January 1 - October 31 2022, Melody McKiver had 10970 streams on Spotify. Spotify paid out $34.83163501 US for 10970 streams, before fees paid to Distrokid ($35.99 US annually) for having their music available on streaming services. That works out to $0.00317517 per song. Many independent artists don't even break even on the costs to make their music available on the largest streaming service(s). In contrast, from January 1 - October 31 2022, Melody McKiver sold the equivalent of 382 tracks for a profit of $283.33US at Bandcamp. That's an equivalent of $0.7417 per song. Had all of the Spotify listeners purchased from Bandcamp, Melody McKiver would have made close to $8136.45 instead of $34.83. The image is posted in the format of Spotify's branding, and features Anishinaabe artist Melody McKiver holding a viola in the bottom left corner.
