Remember this post from Mid November last year?
Ended up one of the coldest & snowiest winters in decades for many of us.
Currently there is a record early Stratospheric warming event projected

Judging by some posts I am seeing...
A lot of signals supporting a cold start to winter.
Stratospheric warming event (Polar Vortex split)
Negative NAO (blocking in North Atlantic)
Models showing it (CFS, Euro, GFS)
MJO into Phase 8 (Indian Ocean)
Deep Negative EPO (Alaskan Ridge)
Did I miss anything else?
This morning makes 10 out of the last 11 mornings below nomal.
Avg low is mid 40s but we been dropping into the 30s 2nd half of October.
Look at the Sky Cover Stats. 0 = Clear. 1 = Fully Covered.
Another cold morning!
9 of the last 10 have been below normal
The lows have been more below normal than the highs
Roof Foliage Comparison around October 19th. (couple days off this year)
2013 remains the earliest
2015 & 2024 had the best colors
2018 was the latest, the sugar maple had just started to change
2026 is earlier than last year but nothing extreme

October-November Snowfalls
We're due for decent Snowfall here in SW CT before December 1st. It's been 8yrs since.
Some will say its a jinx for the winter though.
In 2024 interior got hit hard but not here.

Both the latest GFS and European Ensembles are suggesting the Polar Vortex is going to be doing exactly what a winter lover would want to see from it in early November! Big stretch towards North America!
Will that pattern lock in??
If we can get these stretches to continue, Winter is going to be very exciting in the Eastern US.
