Haven’t related to a project so much in years. @GlennDonaldson is a master of pure, timeless, and occasionally sardonic indie lo-fi trad-pop. Interview makes it clear: the skater-Dischord-Smiths-happy/sad melodic throughline results in perfect emotional/aesthetic POV. All love.

Hey folks, #ThePaperSea thepapersea.net (one of the members of @WhaleFall) launched their single & pre-orders for album today. It’s moving, piano-grounded instrumental music. HIGHLY recommended. thepapersea.bandcamp.com/

“We are very much interested in origin of music. The source of music. The pure sound is something we would very much like to achieve.”

Sound impression: 'It Will Become Itself' by @WhaleFall which originated in a single serendipitous improv session held in LA in June 2018.

In any single moment, where it has been is just as important as where it finds itself and where it is headed...

One thing about this is Gen-Z finally has something to lord over the generation that comes after it, a rite of passage that gives those who lived it a kind of calloused sagacity, like Vietnam for Boomers or poptimism for Millennials
“In its airy compositions, in its robust wind instruments, in its dedication to unravelling an inner landscape of thought and feeling, it does what post-rock can do best: give us what we need.”
This review is spectacular. 🤍
