I learned a long time ago nobody f**ing cares so do something. Getting #sober really reinforced that...it is up to me to change.

From inside the pattern, a sober life feels like something that only happens to other people. Same for me. After more than 30 detoxes, staying sober only started working once I stopped trying to solve my whole life at once and focused on getting through the day in front of me. And yes, it's a 24 hour job, but so was addiction. It was exhausting thinking about making money all the time, searching for a place to sleep, and doing everything to avoid withdrawals. Taking it one day at a time really is the whole job

Compliment-givers tend to underestimate the receptive warmth of a specific kind word.
Praise aimed at the exact deed lands softer and stronger than a vague glow.

One person already read the book so it’s making progress.
Ash remembers the fire that made it.
In the valley below the hill-city, a boy with a scythe stands in the wheat while something ancient uncoils above the clouds.
The landing stone still waits.
The vow has four faces.
And the quiet road is no longer still.
Emberwake — Book I of The Emberwake Cycle.
The fire isn’t gone. It’s just waiting for the right hands.
Give my book a chance 🙏🏼🙏🏼

This is how I live everyday life. Always a bright side. Going to give you an example. Recently my friend gave me bags of clothes. I REALLY need clothes. Nothing fit 🥹 So I told myself, "I'm so lucky! My friend thinks I am smaller than I am! My exercise is paying off!"
Flip the script. 💯

45% of the worlds population doesn't have a toilet at home to use. Amongst many other things it's easy to take for granted.
That alone should keep us grateful!

I wish I had a nickel for each time during my working life, in sobriety, that I DIDN'T have to stick my nose into a situation...and make it worse. 😉 Then, at some point I would think, How did I manage to stay out of that? The answer of course is the "Fellowship". 🙂

Sometimes I’ll pull up to a stoplight and see somebody flying a flag.
For those who don’t know what I mean, it’s the cardboard sign:
Need help.
Anything helps.
God bless.
And sometimes I just sit there and look at the person holding it.
Because I’ve been that guy.
There was a time when I was living in an alley on the south side of Fort Worth.
I’d walk around the corner and fly a flag.
And if I’m being truthful, a lot of the time I wasn’t trying to get money for food.
I wanted drugs.
I was addicted, struggling mentally, homeless and living a life that seems almost impossible to me now.
But I remember the people in those cars.
I remember looking through their windshields.
Sometimes I could see pity in their eyes.
Sometimes contempt.
Sometimes they tried really hard not to look at me at all.
And now, all these years later, sometimes I’m sitting at the same kind of stoplight…
Only now I’m on the other side of the windshield.
That’s a strange feeling.
Because I catch myself looking at the guy with the sign and wondering what his story is.
Is he hungry?
Is he addicted?
Is he struggling mentally?
Is he lying?
Maybe.
I lied plenty.
But I also know something the people looking at me back then couldn’t possibly have known:
My story wasn’t over.
That guy living in an alley wasn’t going to stay there forever.
He was going to get sober.
He was going to rebuild relationships.
He was going to have a family.
He was going to help start a recovery program and eventually spend his days trying to help people who looked a whole lot like he once did.
Nobody sitting at that stoplight could have seen any of that.
Hell, I couldn’t see it either.
So when I see somebody holding that cardboard sign today, I try to remember that I have absolutely no idea how the rest of their story is going to be written.
Because once upon a time, I was the guy on the corner.
Today I’m the guy behind the windshield.
And God, am I grateful to be sober today. ❤️

The benefits of being a giver, instead of a taker, was beyond my comprehension when I was new in recovery.
Selfishness and self-centeredness was the root of my problem.
Simple, but not easy; a price had to be paid. It meant destruction of self-centeredness. I must turn in all things to the Father of Light who presides over us all.

Easily the best post of the day. My friend, you truly understand.
One of the barometers I use for my spiritual condition is my "driving", and while I'm far from perfect, the more patient and courteous I am on the road, the better I project kindness in all my affairs! ✌️♥️

Since everyone on @X is obsessed with impressions.
Let me tell you about the only ones that matter.
Walking around drunk, I made a shitty impression on everyone.
Walking around sober, I make a much better one.
