The more people that choose to walk, bike and take public transit to get around, the better cities work for everyone, including drivers. Anyone still claiming this is a “war on the car” doesn’t understand how cities work. HT @fietsprofessor for graphic.

A recent study shows that electricity blackouts can be avoided across the nation — perhaps even during intense weather events — by switching to 100 percent clean and renewable energy, such as solar, wind and water energy. wapo.st/3sTU3rV

New milestone in Alberta's power market, as we wean off coal. With the recent addition of Rattlesnake Wind to the grid, the total capacity of wind+solar (2605MW) is greater than coal capacity (2530). NG is the new elephant in the room at 10,166MW.

Alberta, I love you. Get your shit together. Get vaccinated.
In order to best support adult critical care during this fourth wave of COVID-19 pressures, AHS Calgary Zone has made the difficult decision to postpone all scheduled elective surgeries and many outpatient procedures for the remainder of this week at our Calgary hospitals.

Seems like we are getting numbed to the seriousness of what is going on with the environment. And then you go on your annual trip to Peyto Glacier and the amount of glacial melt and expansion of the proglacial lake slaps you hard in the face. The changing climate is no joke.

On a call right now with the Alberta Liabilities Disclosure Project, which has a new report out on oil and gas wells. According to its analysis, the average projected cost of cleaning up Alberta’s over 300,000 unreclaimed oil and gas wells is $55 billion. #ableg #cdnpoli

It's been a blast to see this come to life! Well done everyone that is making this community a reality!
In #BlatchfordYEG, bike lanes are built right in from the get-go. No reverse engineering needed! Separate lanes make it easier and safer for everyone, reducing congestion for commuters and giving families another way of getting outside. #yeg #yegbike🚴

Its one thing to watch a single glacier melt year over year-whether simply standing on it or mapping it with "drones and lasers". Its quiet another considering the downstream implications over the next century... @CentreForHydro @usask_water @GWFutures cbc.ca/player/play/184991341…

Still seeing a lot of people saying "What's the point of a carbon tax if you get the money back in a rebate?" The rebate is fixed. The amount of tax you pay isn't. Emit moderate CO2: Rebate ≈ Tax Emit more CO2: Tax > Rebate Emit less CO2: Rebate > Tax

I remember those who explained to me that it was impossible for Alberta to phase out coal by 2030. Some of those explanations were condescending. Coal will likely be gone from Alberta's grid by 2023 thanks to carbon pricing, air quality regs, cheap gas, and cheap wind and solar.
Some good news at the end of a tough week for Alberta. @CapitalPower's announcements today (adding to @TransAlta and @ATCOElectric's earlier plans) would mean that Alberta's grid will be coal-free by 2023! #nocoalinstocking #ableg #abenergy

My gap year ends in August, but it doesn’t take a college degree in economics to realise that our remaining 1,5° carbon budget and ongoing fossil fuel subsidies and investments don’t add up. 1/3
