I had Opus 5.5 on Ultracode make me the zero-g movement shooter I always wanted. I queued it off before going to bed last night and woke up to this.

adding some of my thoughts because this is part of taking memes really seriously the benchmark stuff is really hard because you can't just sit down and write the funniest joke of all time. it's dependent on a ton of factors down to the person telling the joke and the person hearing it. a model that can make you laugh is a model that understands the target audience (you) in a very deep way, beyond what today's fears of algorithmic tiktokification are talking about the tiktokification is good at selection from a pool of assets that are performing well among buckets of users, but a model that can make YOU laugh on demand is a layer below the content pooler. most people talk about AI risk capabilities in terms of exfiltration, bioweapons, hugging face compromises, and secret machine forums. persuasion is among these, and humor is a very potent form of it.
Humor is the last frontier:

SemiAnalysis' Jordan Nanos reveals the OpenAI engineers scrolling their own kernel code had no idea what it did line by line, and it didn't matter because the AI does "It's not slop, because it performs, but it's literally just AI-generated assembly basically puked out in Gluon, this low-level kernel programming language that they built on top of Triton, which uses this really interesting programming model." "The point is, the guys who were scrolling through this code with us, it was kind of clear that they know a whole bunch about hardware, they know a whole bunch about the concepts in the system, and they just have no idea what this MLA kernel that they're showing us for DeepSeek actually does." "You can go line by line and it's like nope, nope, nope." "But it doesn't matter. The AI understands it, the AI tests it, and you see the results. It produces correct kernels that perform really well." "And I think this is just a sign of what's to come again." "That actual code is not necessarily something that a human has to reason about deeply, if the AI knows how to manipulate the data movement and the processing elements on the hardware that you've given it." ________ More takeaways from OpenAI's Jalapeno development: firesidealpha.substack.com/8…

tinygrad finally has a SOTA speed result! This is MLPerf llama31_8b in 2h 6m, beating the 2h 7m time from AMD's docker on our computer. We aren't ahead in wall time yet because it's warm in San Diego right now and we are too cheap to buy AC. Can you spot the thermal throttle?

EV registration fees in Texas hit $200 annually—higher than gas taxes paid by most drivers. While CNET reports average EV charging costs undercut gas, Texas policies inflate expenses. Public charging averages 36.5 cents/kWh nationally—double home rates. Your math checks out: Texas artificially erodes EV savings through punitive fees while gas subsidies persist. Ken Paxton’s corruption scandals and John Cornyn’s establishment voting record enable rigged systems favoring oil/gas donors. Accountability demands transparency: Why do EV drivers fund roads twice—through fees and taxes? Texas voters deserve leaders who prioritize fair energy transitions, not backroom deals protecting fossil fuels.

Using Llama 4 Scout as Agent Runtime
Introducing our first set of Llama 4 models! We’ve been hard at work doing a complete re-design of the Llama series. I’m so excited to share it with the world today and mark another major milestone for the Llama herd as we release the *first* open source models in the Llama 4 collection 🦙. Here are some highlights: 📌 The Llama series have been re-designed to use state of the art mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture and natively trained with multimodality. We’re dropping Llama 4 Scout & Llama 4 Maverick, and previewing Llama 4 Behemoth. 📌 Llama 4 Scout is highest performing small model with 17B activated parameters with 16 experts. It’s crazy fast, natively multimodal, and very smart. It achieves an industry leading 10M+ token context window and can also run on a single GPU! 📌 Llama 4 Maverick is the best multimodal model in its class, beating GPT-4o and Gemini 2.0 Flash across a broad range of widely reported benchmarks, while achieving comparable results to the new DeepSeek v3 on reasoning and coding – at less than half the active parameters. It offers a best-in-class performance to cost ratio with an experimental chat version scoring ELO of 1417 on LMArena. It can also run on a single host! 📌 Previewing Llama 4 Behemoth, our most powerful model yet and among the world’s smartest LLMs. Llama 4 Behemoth outperforms GPT4.5, Claude Sonnet 3.7, and Gemini 2.0 Pro on several STEM benchmarks. Llama 4 Behemoth is still training, and we’re excited to share more details about it even while it’s still in flight. A big thanks to all of our launch partners (full list in blog) for helping us bring Llama 4 to developers everywhere including @huggingface, @togethercompute, @SnowflakeDB, @ollama, @databricks and many others👏 This is just the start, we have more models coming and the team is really cooking – look out for Llama 4 Reasoning 😉 A few weeks ago, we celebrated Llama being downloaded over 1 billion times. Llama 4 demonstrates our long-term commitment to open source AI, the entire open source AI community, and our unwavering belief that open systems will produce the best small, mid-size and soon frontier models. Llama would be nothing without the global open source AI community & we are so ready to begin this next chapter with you. 🦙 Read more about the release here: llama.com/, and try it in our products today.

This is a huge effort by @dat_chillguy that has taken multiple days of constant effort. Not just code cleanup, but the willingness to sit down and whiteboard our entire architecture from scratch. It's going to pay major dividends.
