My Sony Sony UBP-x800m2 4k player, which admittedly isn’t the greatest as you have to manually switch Dolby Vision on/off, is having problems playing back Criterion’s 4K The Breakfast Club. Perhaps it has issues with certain discs because other ones play fine, but half way through it got choppy And then froze. No visible damage to the disc.

I just got my copy a few days ago and watched it. A big upgrade in quality from the out of print DVD (which I own). I watched the enhanced version which claims to have new effects, but I didn’t notice any. The new special features are great.

Must be a new feature of iOS 27. I was about to take a photo and received a message saying “clean your camera lens.” Sure enough, there was a smudge on it. Machine learning getting put to good use.

My fan casting of Jensen Ackles as Leon Kennedy in a Resident Evil movie. I used Grok to generate this. He’s a great actor and a proven leading man. He would excel in the roll.

It’s about time. This is going to be good.
MEMENTO is coming soon to a 4K Collector's Edition and Standard Edition from Umbrella's EXCLUSIVE NEW director-approved Dolby Vision restoration! This week marks a year since we first announced the restoration. In this time, we have worked closely with Christopher Nolan and his team to perfect the master. We are thrilled for this to be a worldwide first for one of cinema's most revered directors, a feat that we could never have achieved without your dedication as physical media diehards. Now... where was I?

I’ll buy the 4k disc. I watched Mutiny last week in theater and had a great time.

Absolutely do. ❤️
Remember when the STANDARD video game came with some sweet cover art, a complete disc, AND a manual for the full price? Now they remove ALL of that and yet we still pay FULL price... We need to set OUR STANDARD higher for what we get for our money.

This looks amazing. Never seen this.
Ready yourself for our new trailer of THE BOXER. From legendary director Shuji Terayama, a former boxing champ (Bunta Sugawara) trains a young upstart (Kentaro Shimizu) in a carnivalesque sports movie unlike any other. Arriving on Blu-ray for the first in the world this July.

Colossus data center? Someone watched Colossus: The Forbin Project. Let’s hope it doesn’t turn against humanity.
Replying to @claudeai
Our agreement with @SpaceX means we will use all the compute capacity at their Colossus 1 data center. This will give us over 300 megawatts of additional capacity to deploy within the month.

This was not what I anticipated the movie to be. I don’t go for this style of movie typically, but it’s A24 so I’ll watch anything they do. I liked it. Darker than expected. Loved the very filmic look and how it was lit, so hat tip to director or cinematography, Arseni Khachaturan, of whom I’m not familiar with but now will look closely and what he does in the future.
It’s a wedding, it’s performative by nature.

Good. They can use Claude code to find all of those core audio bugs and patch them. 😏
This month, Ternus overhauled the hardware engineering group around what he calls a new AI platform designed to speed up product development and improve quality. It’s indicative of his plan to deploy AI quickly throughout the company to improve operations. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

I still don’t know what this movie is supposed to be about, but it’s an A24 film, so I’ll watch it.
There may be only one left standing. Experience David Lowery’s spellbinding MOTHER MARY starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, now playing in select theaters and nationwide this Friday.

Good review. Looking forward to watching this as I missed it when it came out originally. Preordered the 4k disc.
***I posted the wrong audio scores for Soldier (1998) 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review yesterday. They were lower than I realized. Scores have now been updated. Thank you.*** VIDEO QUALITY This is a very good transfer from Arrow. The detail is excellent, and the movie finally shows the sharpness it always had underneath the older discs. Closeups look strong, and the textures in the sets, uniforms, and props come through with a lot more clarity. It is a big step up. Film grain is somewhat inconsistent, but it resolves well. Some shots have thicker grain, but most of the time it looks natural and steady. There are no signs of digital breakup, which tells me the bit‑rates are high enough to handle the fine detail. It holds together even in the darker scenes. The color grade is bold and high contrast. A lot of this looks like it was lit with spotlights on a stage, and the 4K transfer keeps that look intact. There are some closeup shots where the lighting hits just right, and those moments look great. Wider shots could have benefitted from modern lighting, where things are not so stark, but I still prefer this over the flat look of modern cinema. There is ringing in almost every shot. With the contrast being so high, it is easy to see. I am not a fan of it, but late 90s and early 2000s movies often have this baked in, and even older films are not free from it. It can be part of the original process. With all that said, the transfer is excellent, and fans are going to love how this looks. AUDIO QUALITY The 5.1 track is quite good. It has a nice surround presence, and the effects move around the room in a clean way. Bass has weight when it needs to. The main issue is dialogue balance. Voices can be hard to hear, and they sit lower than they should. If the dialogue were clearer, this would be a very strong mix. Everything else is solid. OVERALL / MOVIE THOUGHTS Soldier is a simple late 90s action movie with a cool look and a straight story. Kurt Russell gives a decent performance. I wouldn't say the movie stands out from that era. It is not a deep film. It's not a long movie, and getting used to long movies now, it really feels as though they could have expanded on the relationship that he starts to get into. Also, at the end it was just him and the boy, it would have been nice if it was him, the boy and the girl. There is some charm to this style of filmmaking, but I think this is something that could be improved upon today. Or they could just completely screw it up as we see time and time again. As for the disc, the video upgrade is sharp, and the audio is good aside from the dialogue being low. It is an easy disc to enjoy if you like this movie, no question. Recommended! That’s extremely weird to do this. I pre-ordered Marty Supreme 4K on Amazon and got the one on the left. I sent it back.
So... the release on the left... no Atmos, no DolbyVision. That's where the pricier release on the right takes over. Extras are quite different too.
