How complicated is health care billing in the U.S., and how much is it costing patients? Find out in last month's @JAMA_current report ja.ma/2Ffq1FH with editorial by @vivianleemd ja.ma/2sMawCH. Study done at @DukeU with support from @HarvardHBS.
My brother’s girlfriend’s cousin and his family were caught in their vehicle in Maui while the wildfires suddenly erupted around them. No cell service, so Apple Emergency SOS was the only way they could get in contact with first responders. Literally saved their lives.

Lol. I Googled myself and found that I now have my own @USNewsHealth page, completely unbeknownst to me. Does this mean I made it? But also maybe a little scary. health.usnews.com/doctors/ph…

I have a theory. Our poor #publichealth officials will never get the respect and understanding they deserve. Society asks them to predict the future, yet doesn't account for how any released statements can/will change societal behavior itself.

If #publichealth says "don't worry about it," humans will be more careless, and naturally case numbers will be worse than expected. If "it's going to be catastrophic," a large swath of people will take greater precautions, and naturally case numbers can be better than expected.

Either way, you end up with an inextricably reversed impact on outcome. Paradoxical—or is it? You can't win. Human nature 🤦‍♂️

Electric #scooters are terrible and evil. Spread the word. Have seen so many patients in the ER who, because of them, will never be the same again. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3353…
A quick thread:
A lot of people have asked me this week: Where did this ivermectin obsession come from? Who could possibly benefit from it? Most importantly, why did my antivaxx aunt start eating horse goo from the tractor store? It’s complicated, but here are some answers.
