Birds can literally see the Earth’s magnetic field thanks to specialized light-sensitive proteins in their eyes. Migratory birds possess one of nature’s most remarkable superpowers: the ability to navigate thousands of miles with incredible precision. At the center of this ability is a protein called Cry4 (cryptochrome 4), found in the retinas of their eyes. When blue light enters the bird’s eye, it triggers a quantum reaction in the Cry4 proteins known as the radical pair mechanism. This ultra-sensitive process responds to the orientation and strength of the Earth’s magnetic field, essentially turning the bird’s visual system into a biological compass. Scientists believe birds don’t just sense magnetism — they may actually see it. The quantum fluctuations likely appear as subtle visual patterns, shadows, or color gradients overlaid on their normal vision, much like an augmented reality heads-up display. This extraordinary adaptation allows migratory birds to cross oceans, deserts, and mountain ranges with pinpoint accuracy, relying on the strange rules of quantum mechanics to guide them on their epic journeys.

Europe cost of living, Sep 2026 Household energy prices rose 29.1% in Belgium over the past year, the steepest increase in the EU (EU average: +8.2%). Italy saw +19.3%, France +10.1%, Portugal only +1.7%. Grocery prices barely moved this year in the countries that protested on Oct 17 (Belgium −0.4%, France +1.5%, Italy +1.7%, Portugal +2.4%). But food is still 26–35% more expensive than in September 2021. Rents climbed fastest in Portugal (+5.2% y/y, +27.9% since 2021). Energy since 2021: Belgium +71.8%, Italy +66.8%, EU average +53.8%. The worldwide protest in my humble opinion should not be collapsed into one cause simply because a particular generation is leading it or more adversely affected by the ground situation. France, Italy, and (to a lesser extent) Spain share pressure from rising living costs, energy/fuel prices, and strained public services or housing. High energy costs linked to geopolitical events are a clear factor in the European protests. Spain is more specifically about housing affordability and rents. --> Let's be clear for Europe - the Ukraine, Iran and Middle East war and an existing public system burdened by increasing refugee & migration across the past decade due to the fallout of other wars have likely led to it. Albania mixes youth/education frustration with broader anti-corruption and anti-government sentiment. India is primarily about electoral processes and alleged voter-roll irregularities, not the same cost-of-living or energy issues driving much of the European unrest. Do your own research with an AI search or read diverse newspapers to form your own opinion rather than borrowing from my or anyone's research.

At a public hearing held in Okhla yesterday, many people testified that their names had been wrongly deleted from the voter list during the Delhi SIR. - Naeemuddin has lived at the same address for 30 years. However, his and his wife’s names have been deleted from the draft SIR voter list & they have been wrongly classified as ‘permanently shifted’. The only remedy available now is to submit form 6 & make a false declaration that they are first time voters. - Ravi came with his voter id card. When we ran it through the ECI database, he was shown as ‘dead’ and therefore deleted from the voter list. But when we looked at all the names listed at his address, we found his name but with a different EPIC number! He said he was not aware of the other EPIC number in his name. One EPIC should have got deleted under “duplicate” category. How did the BLO classify him as “dead”? - Sameenuddin is one of the nearly 13 lakh voters who were deleted in the pre-SIR phase. He says he voted in the Delhi elections in 2025 but he was not given an enumeration form during the Delhi SIR as his name was deleted from the voter list on the grounds that he had shifted, even though he continues to live at the same address. He did not receive any notice from the ECI when his name was deleted. Now he has to fill Form 6. The public hearing highlighted how people are being wrongly classified as dead or permanently shifted in the Delhi SIR. The onus is being put on them now to fill Form 6 to restore their names, which means declaring you are applying for inclusion of your name on the electoral roll for the first time- which is clearly a false declaration & carries penal consequences. The public hearing was organised by Jan Sarokar, Voter Adhikar Manch, MKSS and NFIW.

13.3 crore voters were disenfranchised, and many BLO's doing SIR committed suicide. On this auspicious day of Dussehra, hope truth & justice prevails. Jay Durga!

Google just open-sourced Harness². (turn any harness into a self-improving system) a harness is everything wrapped around the model, like the system prompt, tools, memory, skills, and subagents. today a person designs it once, and the agent runs every new task with that same fixed setup. Harness² lets the agent refine that setup for each new task on its own, with the model weights left untouched. on every task, the agent proposes edits to its harness, runs a few candidate versions, and composes a better harness by comparing how those runs behaved. because it learns from the differences between runs, it needs no correct answer or grader for the task. that covers a single task. Harness² also carries what it learns from one task into the next. after each task, it saves the harness it settled on along with the lessons that held up across the runs. the next time it refines a harness, it starts from those notes instead of from scratch. this means every finished task makes the next round of edits more informed. Google tested this with Gemini 3.5 Flash and GLM-5 on legal, office, and professional work benchmarks. one round of edits was enough to beat their original harnesses, and giving the agent more rounds pushed scores higher. those extra rounds can go wide or deep. the agent either tries several candidate harnesses at once or keeps refining a single one step by step, using OpenCode or Codex to carry out the work. you can find the Harness² repo here: github.com/google-research/h… I wrote about a similar idea for agents already running in production, where the harness should repair itself after a failure instead of waiting for someone to debug the trace by hand. that piece walks through how @Cometml's Opik (open-source) closes this loop, going from a failing trace to a proposed fix to a regression test that stops the same failure from coming back. it's quoted below.

Software can detect duplicate EPIC records using an algorithm, but how does it decide which duplicate record to keep? For other classifications, Absent, Shifted, Deceased, no software can know that; it needs an on-location check. So this SIR has to be an entirely a BLO exercise. How was the software creating the ASDD list - did no one from software vendor raise this topic with ECI ? Who is the software vendor ECI? @AnjaliB_ @_YogendraYadav @PrashantKishor @ECISVEEP @SpokespersonECI @yadavakhilesh @supriya_sule @NewIndianXpress @the_hindu @AshwiniVaishnaw

Sir/Maam - No software can know who stays in a house, dead or shifted or which record is authentic vs fake. Please make that program's algorithm open to all to see what was written there, who wrote it, and on whose request. cc - @AshwiniVaishnaw @supriya_sule @RahulGandhi @yadavakhilesh @ncbn @mieknathshinde @PrashantKishor

In today's day with bots, humans & paid media agencies working on sharing their idea or news with equal enthusiasm, it is difficult to discern organic to orchestrated content. The key is whether we use publicly available tools to do our own research and build our own mental model, or outsource to TV news/influencers content our understanding of the ground truth. I find tools like Radar & Grok support on chat useful for looking into a cause and building my own mental model on that topic. Thanks! X.@X
