Demanding Regime Change is Democratic Assertion
Naysayers may quibble, but the theory and practice of democray support people in their search for a fresh mandate, writes Pushpendra Singh.

If you’ve questioned the state's oppression of indigenous resistance against the Upper Siang Mega Project or supported the Gen Z protests, you’ve likely been attacked by pro-Modi and pro-Pema right-wingers. small dick energy labeling everyone a Chinese agent. Read this report and see why they’re dancing to the state's tune: ₹10 crore has been funneled purely into pro-SUMP publicity.

Now even legacy media is challenging the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act which severely weakens people’s right to information and curtails press freedom. The petition terms the provisions of the Act as “pre-censorship which is anathema to any democracy”.
The DPDP Act in its current form should be repealed!
EXCLUSIVE: India’s biggest news publishers including Ambani's Network18, Adani's NDTV, Indian Express, Times Internet & others mount the most high-profile challenge yet to Modi’s privacy law, warning it would “render investigative journalism a benign and neutered recorder of events.”
DNPA (@publishers_news) has taken the law to the Supreme Court. They argue it would trample investigative work and let New Delhi identify journalists’ sources.
The provisions “constitute pre-censorship which is anathema to any democracy worth its name,” the group’s 698-page filing says.
The key concerns:
🔹 Consent: requiring a journalist to notify the subject of an investigation and seek consent “would allow that subject to destroy evidence, intimidate witnesses”
🔹 Erasure: people can withdraw consent and demand their data be erased, which the group says could force publishers to unpublish or heavily redact news reports
🔹 Sources: a “nakedly unguided” power to demand information that “can extend to privileged communications in possession of a reporter or the informant”
In a letter to the government, the group said India “has chosen to grant broad exemptions to the state, while failing to extend any corresponding protection to the press.”

Actually, make it mandatory body cams. Every developed nation does it, why not us?
Absolutely true. The Delhi police brutally beat up protesters in buses & police stations. They first snatched the phones of the protesters, so that the criminal brutality could not be recorded. Though police stations are required to have CCTVs, police buses don’t.! They must also be required to have CCTVs

It WAS the Congress. If @INCIndia & @RahulGandhi want to give people the confidence that things are going to change when they're in power, they must make the effort to start the process of rectifying their past mistakes
The situation in Upper Siang is also their doing, after all
What’s happening at Jamia Millia Islamia today is partly Congress’s doing. Responsibility doesn’t begin and end with the BJP. Of course, there’s a difference between the two, particularly in how they treat protesting students. Unlike the BJP, the Congress government wouldn’t lay siege to a university like this. But that doesn’t absolve Congress of its own failures.
The Congress-led UPA was in power when Jamia’s elected students’ union was dissolved in March 2006. The decision was taken by the university administration, then headed by VC Mushirul Hasan, citing campus violence and disruption to academic activities. But the government in power at the time cannot simply wash its hands of the larger failure to protect democratic representation at a central university. Congress led govt failed to ensure the restoration of the student union. Holding the BJP accountable doesn’t mean giving Congress a free pass. Both parties share responsibility for the current situation at the university.

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”

Are more than 50 right wing goons threatening with violence right outside the mandir marg police station not a "breach of peace" for the Delhi Police?
This hooliganism is being enabled while peaceful protestors are being framed as disruptors in the imagination of the people.
