This is a stunning upset for so many reasons.
Members of UofM Board of Regents are typically from the state’s richest families and biggest party donors.
Amir not only unseated a regent in the primary who went after pro-Palestinian student protestors hard but now the lawyer who represented these students sits on the board of a major university. That’s a first.

A common misconception. Only the males are Michiganders, the females are Michigeese and children are Michigoslings.

🚨ABDUL EL-SAYED TROLLS JD VANCE AND TRUMP IN HIS VICTORY SPEECH:
EL-SAYED: JD. Habibi. There is this delicious irony in the fact that you're constitutionally obligated to swear me in in January.
So you know what that means, Wolverine one, Buckeyes zero.
Donald, look, I, I know you, you struggle with my name, so after JD swears me in in January, you can just go on and call me Senator.

This final effort to other Abdul El-Sayed is appalling, and a good antidote is to listen to the way he speaks about what being an American means to him. This is from our interview in September:

We got your back, New York!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Several figures here aren’t federal results or NY-specific. The $472B combines US wide pledges: Micron's $250B is nationwide (NY site $100B) Anthropic's $50B covers TX and NY. The 48% murder drop is from NY's state run GIVE program (28 departments, Jan – May 2026).

i enjoy dunking on economists as much as anybody
but the reason economists do this is because the innumerate wordcels in other disciplines have often never actually written down a real quantifiable model
you have these sprawling theoretical edifices where nobody ever actually put it into logical terms you can test
“Amid industry’s shift towards digital platforms”
What is this? The 2010s?
Nearly 100 Media Mulia employees will be placed on paid leave as part of a business rationalisation exercise.
The publisher of Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo! said the move was aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability amid the industry's shift towards digital platforms.
However, it remained committed to publishing print newspapers for its loyal readers.

Economist William Nordhaus has passed away.
He's the author of one of my favorite papers on the economics of innovation, "Schumpeterian Profits in the American Economy: Theory and Measurement" (2004), in which he estimates how much of the social surplus (a rough measure of how much value is created for society) generated by innovation accrues to entrepreneurs and innovators. His answer? Only about 2.2%.
That is, innovators, as economists like Julian L. Simon continually stressed in their writings, end up leaving the world a far better place. And this is important because many see wealthy innovators as a drag on the economy, with some even wanting to heavily tax their gains according to some ideal scheme of redistribution. And yet, these people are not social drags, but great social benefactors.

People often say: "Why focus on economic growth and GDP per Capita? Other things are much more important than money."
Here is the thing: many of those other things correlate strongly with GDP per capita.
