two things can co exist at once:
colorism is a cultural issue in the philippines, and people use umbrellas here because of the intense tropical heat. do u know how many filipinos suffer from heat stroke alone because of the weather?? be serious

notice how these posts got hardly any engagement at the time bc they’re ridiculous takes that nobody agrees with. authors and readers are not enemies. this is just a few miserable people screenshotting to get an easy dunk & a few thousand likes

exigently, this ao3 discourse has reaffirmed my concern that many users are engaged with fic in an unhealthy excess, the likes of which begins to divorce them from reality. such repeated escapism via wish fulfillment is surely akin to being clubbed by a baseball bat
i get it's kinda weird to see a major news network like CNN talk about the AO3 shutdown given fandom is always perceived as a niche internet thing and traditional media is not that but it doesnt surprise considering how everyone reacted and ao3 being an extremely popular site now
On October 29th, AO3 unexpectedly went down. It’s still offline, and may be that way for several more weeks as they investigate a security breach. The site’s downtime has created a lot of panic and stress, but it’s also winched open a rift between fan fiction writers and readers, all made worse by the state of modern publishing, AI, and the feeling that art and media are just grist for the scroll.
I reported it all out for @CNN and found out a lot about the current state of fan fiction in the process. Huge thanks to @momovolution2 for being my guide here, and for all the authors who talked to me about what’s going on and how they feel about it.

This trope of “the nice slave owner” where we’re meant to see the good in someone with oppressive power because they’re polite to the people they otherwise Own has to die. It exists exclusively so that white people can feel more comfortable with the systems they benefit from.

Reminder that my criticism of Spindlehorse and its shows never extends to the employees, especially animators and visual artists. HB and HH have some of the most visually stunning work I've seen in indie animation and I'm heartbroken to hear about the recent layoffs.

Amazon is just a distributor, they don't dictate the pay Spindlehorse employees get. They contract with Spindlehorse, they don't own them.
However, Spindlehorse DOES rank in serious royalties from being on Prime, so they absolutely have the money to pay their employees fairly.
Replying to @dippindotz_exe
Unfortunately since she's working with amazon now the amount her employees are paid is out of her control

Having an abusive family is funny cause yeah it doesn't happen everyday but when it does it lasts months.
Im fed , clothed, educated but at the same time i will always be a 'useless' 'selfish' kid.
They don't say it directly, but everyday I can hear them talking in kitchen
