Put at its absolute simplest, I can summon no respect whatsoever for ANY UK politician who daren’t tell us the truth, that our difficulties are mostly the result of Brexit. Not to do so means they are either dim and delusional, or they are gaslighting and lying. Which is it?

Part of the #RedditBlackout story that other articles don't mention but this one does is that the owners of Reddit don't seem all that thrilled that it helped train AIs like ChatGPT for free, but in charging for API access to get a slice, 3rd-party apps that Reddit users like me love can no longer exist. As someone who has helped moderate the r/BasicIncome subreddit for free for 10 years, I fully support what is effectively a strike by unpaid moderators and unpaid content generators in opposition to the CEO's desire to increase profits against the wishes of the community which creates all of Reddit's value for free and prefers to access Reddit in third-party ways. This mess only further highlights the challenge of compensating those who trained AI, which was not the owners of Reddit, but its users. The best way to compensate all unpaid work is universal basic income, and it should be recognized as an AI dividend.
