These convos tends to go one way where unsolicited advice is the issue when there are plenty of relationships where no advice or feedback is the issue bc the other person is not that invested, unless it’s about them. Personally, I don’t think there’s a one size fits all…

I think a lot of people can benefit from figuring out what does genuine concern and ego based concern look like in their friendships. There’s ways to determine if being a listening ear is appropriate, if guidance is appropriate and what manner to deliver it, or something else etc
Part of being a good friend is sometimes letting your friends learn the hardships and lessons alone. Women get comfortable believing their unsolicited advice means they’re being a good friend. Then get upset when your friend doesn’t receive your advice well.

the charm of halloween costumes are that there's a DIY element to them. a magazine-level photoshoot for costumes crafted by team of costume designers, makeup artists, and hair stylists isn't interesting to look at. and why are you posting it on like october 22nd?

Habits I stole from ADHD people who are actually doing well. Not "cured." Just no longer at war with their own brain. None of these are "wake up at 5am." Promise. 1. They dont trust their memory. At all.

how do people not understand her point of "don't make overgeneralized claims about groups" like what the fuck are people on. Regardless whatever asshole says shit, don't attach their actions on the whole group. Collective punishment is a warcrime because it harms the innocent.

//hey y'all. I don't usually make these posts, but I'm currently about to be way short on my bills. I got rent, electricity coming up in the nest 6 days, and I'd rather not be losing my place of living while interacting with y'all. If y'all can, please send me commissions. Thanks

a statement you can only make if you know literally nothing about any great writer ever. writers are some of the most comically belligerent people on the face of the earth
I simply cannot bring myself to believe that any writer who is highly critical of other writers is a good writer. To be a good writer, you need to write a lot and writing is such a humbling endeavor. How can you not be graceful when your pride is being checked on a regular?

Its really cool you were able to get the Japanese to engage in open social conflict with you, the one thing they built their entire society around avoiding at all costs.

The amount of people who believe the Bible is the literal word of god outnumber the college educated by at least double in the south and it’s a push in the plains/midwest states

This is going to come off elitist but I don’t think people really understand how backwards red states are and it messes with what people think moderation should be.

Nabokov was a notoriously tough grader and critic, especially of the literature of ideas. But he also championed many popular novels, including writers not often considered literary to serious critics of his time. Authors like H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Louis Stevenson, Lewis Carroll, etc.
Just remembered that, after his death, it was discovered that Nabokov had graded a bunch of short stories from a New Yorker anthology, giving almost all of them low grades except for two A+s: his own story and Salinger’s A Perfect Day for Bananafish.

One of my favorite movies distilled patriarchy so well: “First you are your father’s/brother’s property, and then you are your husband’s property.” Patriarchy has been going so long no one can remember a time when women had their own names.
no way did i just read that keeping your father’s last name is less patriarchal than taking your husband’s last name. babe that’s the same patriarchy

Not think: know. Y’all think these world leaders don’t talk to each other when one of them is about to be on some bullshit?
I don’t think we can ignore governments all over the world suddenly telling their citizens to stockpile food and water. Japan is the most recent. What do they think is about to happen?

Vladimir Nabokov once referred to Dostoevsky as “author of The Double and other works.”
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde came out 4 years before Picture of Dorian Grey, but I’ve just now discovered Dostoyevsky wrote a novella on the theme of dual identity as well called The Double that came out prior to either…friends, is this a good autumn read?? I just finished Jekyll and Hyde and it was great fall reading
