Eight children with measles died in the past 24 hours, bringing combined count of confirmed measles-related deaths in the U.S. to 902.
This is a 35-year hight, driven by declining childhood vaccination rates.

Statement by @mtosterholm @CIDRAP today in response to the White House Executive Order on childhood vaccines
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug. 10, 2026
Statement from Dr. Michael Osterholm, Executive Director, Vaccine Integrity Project, In Response to Todayβs White House Executive Order on Vaccines
Parents should continue to rely on the evidence-basedΒ immunization recommendations developed by trusted medical and public healthΒ experts, including the American Academy of Pediatrics. Today's Executive OrderΒ does not change the underlyingΒ scientific evidence supporting childhood immunization. That data hasΒ been built over decades - through large clinical trials, real-world effectivenessΒ studies and continuous safety monitoring involving millions of children.
Parents deserve clear, evidence-based guidance about how toΒ protect their children, not competing recommendations issued through politicalΒ processes. When families receive conflicting messages, confidence in vaccination suffers, and children ultimately bear the consequences.
Today's Executive Order does not substitute the longstanding process through which vaccine recommendations haveΒ historically been developed - an independent, transparent evaluation of safety,Β effectiveness and disease burden by scientific experts.
We encourage parents to discuss questions about vaccinationΒ with their pediatrician or other trusted healthcare provider and to continueΒ following the evidence-based recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and other leading medical societies.

Iβm a doctor. This executive order is wrong. The President does not have the expertise to make these changes.
Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism.
Breaking up vaccines will mean children have to get more shots to get the same protection, not fewer shots. It will increase hesitancy and make children less safe.
Parents should listen to their childβs pediatrician about vaccines rather than listening to an inaccurate executive order. This is so wrong.

Vaccines save lives.
Doctors know it. Scientists know it. Decades of research has proven it. And millions more children are alive and healthy as a result.
When public health guidance strays from scientific evidence, it creates confusion, erodes trust in life-saving innovations, and makes it harder for families to access the care they need.
We should never let politics stand in the way of medical care. Especially when it comes to our kids.

Vaccines are among the most thoroughly studied, effective tools we have to protect children from serious vaccine-preventable diseases. Decisions about how and when vaccines are used should be driven by rigorous scientific evidence, patient safety, and independent medical and public health expertise. Altering a proven vaccination schedule without credible evidence risks weakening public confidence and putting childrenβs health at risk.
If you have questions about vaccines, talk to your childβs physician. Putting our childrenβs health at risk is not an option
