PRESS STATEMENT
August 14, 2026
Osogbo, Nigeria
POLICE MUST OBEY PRESIDENT TINUBU’S ORDER TO PROTECT VOTERS, BE NEUTRAL
...NSA Must Enforce Presidential Directive
The Imole Campaign Council welcomes the statement by President Bola Tinubu calling on the police and other security agencies to be neutral and professional in Saturday’s governorship election.
The President’s directive to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and other heads of security outfits participating in the election to provide maximum security at polling units and protect voters needs to be stressed.
The President also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a “transparent, free and fair” election.
The Imole Campaign Council believes the presidential directives need to be emphasised to the police especially, as the institution has not discharged its responsibility with professional neutrality in the last few months.
The Imole Campaign Council calls on the police to obey the presidential order and discharge their duties dispassionately on Saturday. We also call on the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to enforce this directive. Police officers must not pay lip service to this presidential directive. Voters must be protected. Polling units must be guarded. Troublemakers must be arrested regardless of party affiliation. Ultimately, votes must count. This is the beauty of democracy. Intimidation of any kind must have no place in our electoral space.
The Imole Campaign Council therefore implores the good people of Osun State to troop out and vote for their choice in the person of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has demonstrated capacity and empathy in the last four years.

THE DISTURBING INCIDENT IN OKUKU TODAY AND THE URGENT NEED FOR THE IGP, TUNJI DISU TO INVESTIGATE THE THREAT AGAINST MY LIFE AND MY CONSTITUENTS.
I read with amazement the false and misleading narrative being circulated on social media by some APC supporters in Odo Otin regarding the disturbing incident involving the pursuit and attempted attack on the Executive Chairman of Odo Otin Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adeyinka, and the subsequent apprehension of two suspected individuals in Okuku.
For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state what I personally witnessed and the steps I took upon being alerted to the situation.
I was on my way from my office at the Osun State House of Assembly after concluding a World Press Conference when I received a distress call from the Executive Chairman of Odo Otin Local Government. He informed me that he was being pursued by a three-vehicle convoy said to be associated with Francis Eniade.
Upon hearing of the pursuit and the imminent danger to his life, I immediately instructed him to make his way back to the Okuku Divisional Police Station, which, in that circumstances, was the safest place for him to seek protection.
I thereafter proceeded towards Okuku with my convoy and security personnel. By the time we arrived, the Chairman had gained entry into the police station.
I drove straight into the station without any prior knowledge or suspicion of what had happened outside. It was only after I got into the station that my attention was drawn to the fact that two men had reportedly been apprehended by members of the public and that a firearm was recovered from them.
Concerned that the situation could degenerate into mob action, I immediately instructed my Chief Detail to take the two men away from the crowd and place them in official custody.
I subsequently directed that the suspects be taken to Osogbo and handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), alongside the firearm reportedly recovered from them, for proper investigation.
The suspects have since been handed over to the appropriate security authorities. It is now the responsibility of the relevant agencies to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
I therefore expect a thorough, impartial and professional investigation into the entire matter, including the identities of those apprehended, the circumstances surrounding the firearm and ammunition reportedly recovered, the ownership and purpose of the vehicles allegedly involved in the pursuit, and the events leading to the reported confrontation.
Let me be unequivocal: I will not be drawn into the false narratives and deliberate misinformation being circulated by desperate political actors seeking to distort what actually transpired.
This incident once again reinforces the urgent need for the Inspector General of Police to investigate the viral threat video against me and other members of my party.
Political differences must never become a justification for violence, intimidation, threats or attempts to endanger human lives.
As Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, I remain firmly committed to the protection of lives, the rule of law, democratic values and the peaceful development of our dear state.
I will not be intimidated. by threats, intimidation or acts of violence. I will continue to stand for peace, justice and the democratic rights of our people.
We must collectively ensure that Osun remains a state where political disagreements are resolved through dialogue, lawful democratic participation and the ballot box, not through intimidation, violence or the use of thugs.
Rt. Hon. Adewale Olumide Egbedun
Speaker,
Osun State House of Assembly

Please join me in praying for the safe return of Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye of Holy Trinity Parish in Kaduna who was kidnapped alongside 10 others.
Three of his parishioners were brutally murdered by radical Islamic jihadists during the attack.
The last week has been some of the most horrifically bloody days in recent history for Christians across Nigeria.
The genocide of Christians must end, and it falls squarely on the Nigerian government’s shoulders to defend its citizens - all of its citizens - and end this violent persecution.
Please keep praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
