The Canadian aluminum industry was basically built by American companies to supply American defense and aerospace needs. At Kemano they diverted a river through a mountain and it falls 2,600 feet to the powerhouse. It is impossible to beat on cost.

USGS numbers make the point starkly: US primary output fell to 670kt in 2024, under half of the 1.36Mt of smelter capacity, with Hawesville idle since 2022 and New Madrid shut in Jan 2024, all while a 232 tariff covered most non-Canadian imports. Protection doesn't fix a smelter's power bill; it just taxes the 4.3Mt of apparent consumption.

🇨🇦🇺🇦 Canadian company Telesat plans to provide Ukraine with an alternative to Starlink by starting to create its own low-orbit satellite network, Lightspeed, which will start operating in early 2028. Canada does not hide that the reason for abandoning Starlink was the decision of the US government to temporarily limit Ukraine's use of the Starshield system, which disrupted the country's defense operations and left Ukrainians even more vulnerable to continuous Russian attacks. It has also forced US allies, who are increasingly at odds with the Donald Trump administration, to rethink their dependence on American technology.

So Trump says Canada is ready to offer anything to get a deal, but other US officials are saying, via Bloomberg, that Canada isn't offering enough. So this is all bullshit. Nothing is changed, nothing is imminent.

Canada wants to expand production via multiple pipelines. TMX is being expanded (for exports to Asia), the Enbridge mainline to the US is being expanded, South Bow wants to build a joint pipeline to the US with Bridger. The Pacific Link pipeline would target Asia.
Quebec is VERY protective of their dairy industry, this seems like a ploy to protect Canadian oil and product imports to the US. Note: energy is not included in tariffs, but Canada has expressed a desire to find new markets beyond the US (hence the pipeline to BC) > *US LIKELY TO CUT 50% TARIFFS ON SOME CANADA PRODUCTS: WSJ *US TARIFFS REMOVAL FROM CANADA COULD BE SOON AS FRIDAY: WSJ *TRUMP LIKELY TO REMOVE SOME TARIFFS ON CANADA AG. PRODUCTS: WSJ

All of these pipeline projects are about expansion, not diversion. Canada is quite willing to sell the US all of the oil it needs, even for processing ate US refineries for export.

One of Canada's dairy exports no0w subject to US tariffs is the basis for the new lawsuit before the US CIT by the US importer that wants Trump's Section 338 tariffs declared illegal in their entirety

any Great Lakes refiner that has even a few drops of spare capacity is absolutely seeing huge incentive- record seasonally- to refine, baby, refine.
Not sure I've ever seen Great Lakes refiners with these windfall profits. Cost of bringing heavy sour Canadian crude to refineries in IL, IN, OH and Michigan is ~$76/barrel. Spot prices (ex all taxes) for gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel are $152/barrel; $204/barrel and $183/barrel.

Read this slowly, imagine the voice in a Russian accent.
Trump: "My decision on Russia is a very simple one. I am in the process of negotiating Peace in the war between Russia and Ukraine, and don’t want to do anything that will drive, foolishly, Russia away from the bargaining table. Great progress is being made, and that includes current hostage negotiations! Signing that document at this time will do that, and I can sign it later, or any time that I want! Perhaps more importantly, Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran, compared to what they could be doing, and I want to keep it that way, and will, unless stupid people get in the way. Lastly, Zelenskyy is using Diesel Refineries in Russia as a target, knowing that these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel markets, including those in the United States. Farmers, ranchers, and businesses of all kinds are suffering greatly from this, but Russia is, nevertheless, sending, at a low price, millions of barrels of diesel to the World. Zelenskyy doesn’t care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him, and that Crooked Joe Biden gave him in the past, he doesn’t want to end this war, and probably never did. He could have made a better deal two years ago than he can now. His country is in shambles, a large portion of his land is lost, his oceans and seas are gone, and his male population is low, wounded, and/or dead. I WANT THIS WAR END! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP"

With a head of senile hornets, this president rails against reality, and sinks deeper into his angry lies, taking us with him. He is lying about literally everything in his post, as usual.
