Before you go into a specific career, look down the hall. Look at the corner office.
What is the schedule like for somebody who spends 15 years doing what youâre about to do and crushes their job?
Are they working 60 hours a week, overweight, divorced and stressed?
Or is the office empty half the time because they are out in the world doing whatever they wantâŚ
The choice is yours!

Point Nemo is located in the South Pacific Ocean, approximately 2,688 kilometers (1,670 miles) away from the nearest land.
Situated at the point of coordinates 48°52.6â˛S 123°23.6â˛W, it is the most remote location on Earth, as it is the furthest point from any landmass.
Geographically, this mystery point is located at the intersection of the equator, the International Date Line, and the 90th meridian west.
The nearest landmasses to Point Nemo are the Pitcairn Islandsâ Ducie Island to the north; Motu Nii, a small island that is part of the Easter Island chain, to the northeast, and Maher Island, off the shore of Marie Byrd Land, an unclaimed territory in Antarctica, to the south.
These islands are all unpopulated. You would have to travel to New Zealand, which is located around 2,500 miles (4,023 kilometers) away, or to one of the worldâs most isolated inhabited islands, Easter Island, which is located about 2,200 miles (3,540 kilometers) to the west of Chile to find the closest hint of civilization.
This journey can only be completed by boat and could take more than two weeks.
Surprisingly, the closest people to Point Nemo are astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) in space. At their closest, they are about 258 miles (415 kilometers) away from the location that marks the spot.

Hot take: If you're in your 20s or early 30s and are renting an apartment, you should move at least every 2-3 years.
It is your one chance to explore new neighborhoods or cities without the pressure of a family or owning a home. Change is good.

I have a dream...
...and Midjourney says it looks like this.
Thereâs a perfect storm of opportunity for a moonshot in housing:
1) Home affordability in major metros is out of control
2) There are 40 million remote workers in the US with "portable" income equal to the GDP of Australia. (đThink about that for a momentâa group of like-minded remote workers has the power to pick a spot on a map and create a local economy from nothing.)
3) There's a growing desire for a simpler, healthier lifestyle & sense of community.
đWhy not build a new kind of village that surfs these mega-trends?
âInspiring location with great weather, world-class outdoor access, & a regional airport within a 90 min drive (the western slope of Colorado comes to mind)
âBeautifully designed, right-sized homes for $500k (no mansions or keeping up with the Joneses) interspersed withâŚ
âAffordable (even subsidized) multi-family rental housing for service workers, young & lower-income people, and owners ofâŚ
âA curated collection of restaurants & shops (individually owned by residents)
âWalk & bike only inside the village
âLightning fast internet and co-working space
âHybrid private/home/online school (teachers are residents)
This would be the real dealânot a Disney-esque ânew urbanismâ development in the burbs. The best of old-world Europe meets the best of modern America. Think Telluride or Alys Beach without traffic or tourists.
Itâs a big, audacious idea but only 1% as audacious as projects already underway in Saudi Arabia (e.g. The Line).
I believe thereâs huge pent-up demand for this. Heck, I'd leave my beloved Boulder to be part of it.
Whoâs in?
(Share this and let's see how much interest there is.đ)

Entrepreneurship is getting paid to solve problems.
If you don't like solving problems, then you aren't going to enjoy starting a company.
We are in the 8th year of Simple Modern, and I believe I can continue to operate for at least another 10-20 years.
The reason for my longevity? I love solving problems.
I crave having a new challenge each day. It has been transformative for me intellectually and emotionally. As our company has expanded, I've grown into leading others and helping them learn to solve sticky issues.
But not all problems are enjoyable. There are "good" problems and "bad" problems.
"Good" problems are things like:
We are selling through our inventory too fast.
We don't have enough people; we need to hire more. We have more expansion opportunities than capacity. Where should we invest our profits?
"Bad" problems include things like:
We can't retain our best people.
We are running out of money.
We are losing market share to a competitor.
Why is our new project launch flopping?
The reward for successful entrepreneurship isn't just money. It's the privilege of working on interesting and stimulating "good" problems. I love my job because I have something interesting and meaningful to work on every day.
As an immature entrepreneur, I wanted to eliminate all the problems in our business. I envisioned a day when everything would run smoothly. Now I know that idea was silly.
When you operate a business well it increases the scope of the business. That means there will be more challenges, not less. Even if I could build a company without problems, I wouldn't enjoy the experience. In entrepreneurship, the process is more important than the destination.
I talked about this and more in the most recent episode of my podcast "Scaling for Good" that is linked in my profile.

Weird but powerful productivity trick:
Pick a "theme song" for every project that matches the energy you want to embody
Play that song on repeat every time you sit down to work on that specific project, and somehow the relevant information will spring much more easily to mind
