Though it's often said that the history of capitalism is Eurocentric, few have attempted to rewrite it from a non-Eurocentric perspective. Historian Andrew B. Liu rises to the challenge with "Tea War: A History of Capitalism in China and India." jacobinmag.com/2021/01/tea-w…
I think Maxey could take fettermans seat in two years if he wanted to
Tyrese Maxey on whether he changes his baby's diaper:
"I'm a big diaper changing guy. I take pride in the speed that I'm able to change a diaper and keep her from crying. So I'm a big diaper change guy, big feed guy, big nap guy. I'm all of it, wake up in the middle of the night, go get it. I do it all man. I try to cherish these moments, cause it feel like already now she trying to crawl and do different things. So she's already moving too fast for me"

As I reported hours ago, Flávio Bolsonaro has arrived safely in United States.
The mastermind behind this operation is U.S. Secretary of State @SecRubio .
From the United States, free and safe, Flávio will lead the opposition against Lula.
seems like AES doesn't speak arabic super well? not holding it against him ofc, but waiting for the day we get someone who speaks one of the mount-rushmore impossible-for-english-speaker languages (chinese, arabic, japanese, korean, etc.) to truly scare swing voters

It is so easy to falsify this Apple-centered story. The Chinese manufacturing capabilities are across the board—TV sets, laundry machines, steamers, cars, automobile components,
shipbuilding, solar panels, etc. As early as 1997, Whirlpool concluded that it had troubles competing with Chinese home appliance makers and Japanese TV makers reached the same conclusion in the early 2000s. This is not taking anything away from Apple as a remarkable company but there is this Chinese baseline and general capability on which Apple and Foxconn built on and expertly reconfigured and we should calibrate their contributions appropriately.
It also gets the Apple story wrong. The right version of that history is that Apple—and Foxconn—tapped into existing manufacturing capabilities in China. Before Apple, China already had a massive network of component producers and an incredibly skilled labor force. Apple repurposed and added some of these capabilities to iPhone production on top of that baseline. Apple should get the credit for jump starting handset production in China, but the spillover story is in the other direction as well. Apple went to China because of China’s existing general manufacturing capabilities in the first place and it was able to retool and upgrade these existing capabilities for its own production. That is not Arizona story at all.

1/ Dan Wang’s NYT essay on TSMC's Arizona plant argues that TSMC is doing for America what Apple did for China. But the analogy rests on two assumptions and it's not clear that either one of them is holding.

The thing is. And this was a major 🔑 for me several years ago, in thinking about the podcast, is that communists are obsessed with capitalism. Some of them are so obsessed that they might even secretly love it. Whereas capitalists rarely spend any time thinking about it.

So if you want to understand capitalism, you need to be talking to small business owners, portfolio managers, and Marxists. Nobody else can really talk about it with any substance.

Tomorrow is publication day for ANTI-FASCIST ECONOMICS! 🌹🌾
I wrote this book so that everyone can read it. I’m delighted that Booklist describes it as "a vision of economics centred on affordability" that’s accessible to all.

ANTHROPIC’S IPO VALUATION EXPECTATIONS DROP FROM $2 TRILLION TO $1.5 TRILLION
Some investors are considering a $1.5 trillion valuation for Anthropic’s upcoming IPO, down 25% from earlier expectations of $2 trillion.
Anthropic reported $16.8 billion in Q3 revenue, up 45% quarter-over-quarter, but growth slowed sharply after revenue more than doubled in Q2.
The company also reported adjusted profitability for the quarter.
The key concern: Slowing revenue growth and rising AI infrastructure costs could weigh on one of the most anticipated IPOs.
