Here we show by single-nucleus RNA sequencing of Moricandia arvensis bundle sheath cell-specific expression of photorespiration genes and associated pathways beyond glycine decarboxylase, including ammonium assimilation and redox regulation.

Very pleased to see this work out that identifies a code in C3 rice co-opted to allow C4 photosynthesis. doi.org/10.1038/s41586-024-0… Thanks to all involved but in particular @l_luginbuehl @JoeEcker @_joseph_swift Great transatlantic partnership. @plantsci

"Sucrose synthase (SUS) is a key enzyme that directly hydrolyses sucrose" No. It's a glycosyltransferase. Reversibly cleaves suc to fruc + UDP-/ADP-gluc. If SUS inactivation is why "knockouts increased gluc & fruc" why are there *zero data* on suc content? doi.org/10.1038/s41586-024-0…

My answer is: Learn Julia. I use it now for all of my coding. The tidyverse is currently implemented in Julia, so a key advantage of R is available, and it has numerous other useful and interesting features as well. Having said that we continue to teach and use R and Python.
