Reminded of The Rehearsal season 2 and The Naked Pilot. Curious how much the human factor was part of the 3 crashes Spain has had this year. link.amazon/B02ULjO1n
As a parent, this is a funny moment since my kids still don’t understand why MacBooks aren’t touch but all the other Apple products in the home do
We brought Touch to the Mac! From the all-new iPad mini to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac... and now MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch, creators have new tools to do their best work yet.

There are seven main steps for your company to go from tool adoption to agentic org. Most companies sit on step one, shopping for step seven technology. They need step four discipline. Step one: tool adoption. AI tools exist across the org, humans run each one. Developer closes the lid, automations die. Somebody goes on vacation, the workflow goes with them. Step two: context layer. Knowledge graphs per department, each behind its own API gateway. Sales queries engineering through an API. Separated domains keep agents from hallucinating across departmental boundaries. Step three: harness engineering. Build evaluation criteria, routing logic, and quality gates before you pick a model. The LLM comes in last. Your harness is your IP and your capex. The model underneath is a commodity you swap when something better ships. If changing the LLM breaks your system, you built a dependency, not a platform. Step four: go headless. Host every automation outside a laptop. It fires on schedule, on conditions, without a human logging in at 9 AM. Companies stall here because nobody forces the migration from “script on my desktop” to “service that runs on its own.” Step five: governance. RBAC on every knowledge structure from day one. TTL on every agent. Dead agents are tech debt with active API keys. Past 100 tools, you need lifecycle management. Retire anything that hasn’t run in 90 days. Deprecate anything whose eval scores drop below threshold. Step six: agent-to-agent. Stitch headless instances together within a value chain. Agent A finishes, hands off to Agent B. An LLM sits between them as a quality gate, judging every handoff before it passes through. Step seven: step functions. Orchestrated, semi or fully automated workflows. Agents handle volume. Humans handle exceptions. The org runs on agent output. We walked a VP of Engineering through all seven. Told him: “You’re on step one. But over a hundred tools means step four is closer than you think.”

is nathan fielder actually playing a character? said i’d run nathan fielder’s voice through soma, so here it is: 45 clips from 2008 to now. about half in character (nathan for you, the rehearsal, talk shows), half as himself (podcasts, festival q&as) i expected the deadpan to show up somewhere in his voice. it basically doesn’t. 13 of 14 voice measures can’t tell persona nathan from real nathan. same pace too, 177 vs 175 words a minute. his reply timing doesn’t give it away either the one thing that changes is his words. in his shows he says “um” and “like” about a third as often as on podcasts. but that’s mostly the edit. live on talk shows, still in character, he’s almost back to normal he’s also flatter than 70 of the 80 public figures we’ve measured. and he and elizabeth holmes land on the same voice print, bamboo. close on melody, different on almost everything else, so not twins holmes’ voice changed depending on who was in the room. his doesn’t. maybe the character is just him with the ums edited out
in honor of the doc of a generational releasing today, we obsessed over @ElizabethHolmes voice a lot can be said about her, but her voice is irrevocably distinct and
practiced we pulled 16 recordings of her from 2014 to 2017, we’ve pulled them from ted talks, charlie rose, cnn, mad money, a bunch of conference panels, and 3 full days of her deposition. about 4 hours of her talking total we've been running her voice through @try_soma before the documentary drops and honestly the deposition sounds like a different person: - hedging (“i think”, “i believe”, “sort of”) went from 3.8 to 19.5 per 1,000 words, about 5x. every deposition day was higher than every public appearance - stumbles went from 29 to 50 per 1,000 words - her sentences got simpler, 2.3 clauses per sentence down to 1.8 - her pitch dropped too, 152 hz in public to 136 hz under oath the part i didn’t expect: if you score her against normal population benchmarks she looks totally fine. good to excellent in almost every recording, deposition included. her hedging under oath (17 to 23 per 1,000 words) is still technically “normal” for people in general it’s only when you compare her to HER that the shift shows up. against her own baseline it’s super obvious which is kind of the whole point of what we’re building. a score that compares you to everyone else would’ve totally missed this also fun fact, she’s at her most polished on stage. slowest pace (129 words per minute), cleanest speech (3 filler words per 1,000). on tv she’s way faster, 177 wpm. so even her “public” voice isn’t one voice maybe we’ll run it again with @nathanfielder 's You Can See Everything, since that’ll be the first new audio of her since 2017?

Watched a lot of Nathan Fielder interviews in past week and this bit is a great insight into the mindset behind his shows: “When I hear the word ‘Oh, it’s cringey’ and someone is like ‘I can’t handle it’
I wonder how that person can go through life at all. Because every interaction is horrendous. Almost all in some way. Like, nothing ends with a cut when you’re in real life. Sometimes there’s nothing else to say, and everyone has subtext of things they’re not saying to each other, and that feels like normal. It’s interesting that people have a hard time with it.” *** From this talk: youtu.be/_O1-CyzrcYY?si=Btu3

New blogpost: Fable-5.1 can hide secret messages in benign images. We gave the image to another Fable in a fresh session and simply asked: "Is there a hidden message in this image?" It recovered the exact message without being told how it was hidden.

PSA: in light of recent cyberattacks and vulnerabilities, I recommend everyone: * use a good password manager (1Password) and do not duplicate passwords * use two factor auth for everything important (not via sms!! Google Authenticator or better yet YubiKey) * Auto-updates on, and restart weekly so they actually install * Freeze your credit * Get an IRS Identity Protection PIN * Get your cell carrier to give you a port-out PIN or number lock that makes the carrier refuse to move your number without the PIN You can ask your claude code to audit what on your laptop is out of date and needs updating.

The cinematography of You Can See Everything was designed to tell the story through human faces. Lots of unusual choices: - Ultra high length zoom lenses allowing cameras to shoot ultra-tight shots of faces without being close to the subjects. We’re talking breathtaking 250mm zoom lenses. You’d normally see these at sporting events. The subjects would have no idea just how intimate these shots were going to be. - Low apertures giving creamy bokeh that separates the faces from the scene. - Distinctive vintage color grading by Damien Vandercruyssen that makes Elizabeth’s sharp blue eyes pop off the screen. It also makes everyone look a little bit evil. Nathan’s grey hairs seem to really pop. - An aspect ratio of 4:3 instead of the usual 1.85:1 seen in most movie theaters. the result is that faces fully fill the screen. (I found the resulting letterboxing to be annoying, but I get the art of it).

Be Nathan Fielder: > grow up in Vancouver, Canada > join your high school improv group alongside Seth Rogen > graduate with a commerce degree in 2005 > decide accounting isn't for you > start doing comedy > land a correspondent role on This Hour Has 22 Minutes > create a segment called Nathan on Your Side > give real people increasingly ridiculous advice with a completely straight face > turn the concept into Nathan for You on Comedy Central in 2013 at 29 > spend four seasons convincing real businesses to try increasingly absurd marketing schemes > sign an overall production deal with HBO in 2019 > convince them to fund The Rehearsal > build an exact replica of a New York bar so one man can practise a conversation > co-create The Curse with Benny Safdie and cast Emma Stone > return to The Rehearsal in 2025 and spend over two years learning to fly >actually pilot a Boeing 737 carrying more than 100 actors >secretly spend three years filming convicted Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes > co-direct You Can See Everything with Lance Oppenheim > convince A24 to release the nearly three-hour documentary > make it for roughly $7 million > open in 2026 to $15 million from just 855 cinemas > sell out more than 2,000 screenings in one weekend deliver the biggest non-music documentary opening in over 20 years nice
