Switching up on and championing for Doomsday because the Russos are clearly fans of the characters and medium of comics whose words just reall spoke to me
Joe & Anthony Russo’s Foreword for the Marvel Premier Collection release of Jonathan Hickman's 'AVENGERS: TIME RUNS OUT': “We grew up in Cleveland, in an old, ethnic neighborhood that felt like something out of a fairy tale. Our world was pretty small, but the comics we found didn't feel that way. We'd pick them up from drugstores and corner shops - sometimes out of order, sometimes years apart - and we read them until they were barely holding together. They were surprising and rich with ideas that gained more meaning as we got older, and they opened up worlds that felt bigger, stranger and more honest than anything around us. Secret Wars spoke to us in that same way. Jonathan Hickman created a story that felt enormous but also incredibly personal. It followed a universe pushed to the edge and asked a simple question that carried real weight: What remains when everything else falls apart? When we joined Marvel Studios for The Winter Soldier, we had no idea where the journey would take us, only that we wanted to tell the best story we could. Our focus was to tell a story rooted in feeling and grounded in truth, and as our work expanded through Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame, the canvas grew, but the emotional center stayed close. Hickman's work reminded us that the heart of any epic story lives in the people trying to survive it. And then there is Doom. Doom is not just an adversary. He is ambition and fear woven together. In Secret Wars, he tries to hold reality in place through sheer will. He believes he can save everything if he controls enough of it. Hickman reveals the strain behind that effort and the human fragility beneath the armor. Even someone who can reshape existence cannot escape the emotions that define him. We have always been drawn to characters who walk that line. People who reach for something noble and lose themselves along the way. Sometimes, destruction does not arrive as a single blow. It arrives through decisions made in uncertainty and through fractures between people who want the same thing but cannot find their way to each other. That is its own kind of ending. It is quiet, painful and incredibly human. In Time Runs Out, one of the most striking elements is how the world begins to slip. It is not a dramatic explosion. It is fear. It is compromise. It is the slow erosion of trust among people who care deeply and still cannot prevent the fall. Stories like that linger. They ask us to look at who we become when pressure shapes every choice. Over the past decade, we have worked on stories that pulled us into extraordinary spaces. We have followed soldiers, spies, cosmic beings and everyday people who shoulder impossible burdens. Through all of it, one truth has stayed with us. Scale only matters when it is anchored in sincerity. Secret Wars carries that sincerity through every page. It turns the end of everything into a story about identity, hope and the cost of wanting to save something larger than yourself. We are still those kids from Cleveland who opened comic books and felt the world expand. The medium changed for us, but the sense of wonder never left. And, yes, we enjoy blowing up a building or two on screen, but books like this remind us why we fell in love with storytelling in the first place.” Joe & Anthony Russo 2026

The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker S1 are genuinely some my absolute favorite live action DC projects, but it is annoying how much it bogs down the potential of the new universe. Coulda just had the actors keep their roles, didn't need the whole projects, similar to MCU JJJ
James Gunn has announced a podcast for ‘THE SUICIDE SQUAD’ where he will reveal what elements of the film are canon to the DCU.

Oh nooooo it's a toss up between an American dad episode and Doomsday as his last role

I'm so curious what the MCU would have been like had he been kept as a coFeige for the cosmic side of the MCU, bcs he is a great writer/director but I don't know if the MCU would've been better spread out or even more random spinoffs
James Gunn reveals that a ‘POLKA-DOT MAN’ prequel series has been discussed, which would focus on “his mother & her many superhero children.” “It's not in active development, but we talked about it.”

I’m watching James Gunn gradually become Dave Filoni in real time

how are you supposed to explain that the Deptartment of Education is posting nods to alt-right pedophilic gender-swapping fanfic without sounding like an insane person

Wait, this actually makes sense. From 2014 Thanos’s perspective, Clint Barton was the brain behind Loki’s entire 2012 Earth invasion before switching sides. For all Thanos knew, Hawkeye was Earth’s supreme military tactician.
Thanos had ball knowledge

Honestly, I kinda like The Flash for what it is, a Flash origin story + flashpoint adaptation + Keaton Batman legacy sequel +time travel movie It's a terrible (but honestly fitting) 1/4 send offs to the DCEU and objectively bad, but I have a soft spot for it
James Gunn altering The Flash ending to cut Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot was one of the worst executive decisions in DC history. Instead of giving the DCEU a respectful sendoff or leaving fans hyped, they traded the core Trinity for a George Clooney gag that the general viewers flat-out rejected.

Thoughts on the DCU projects so far CC - meh, weakest comic Gunn project Superman '25 - love it Peacemaker S2 - underwhelming and overall kind of bad Supergirl - really lame, kinda bad Lanterns - some stuff I really like but overall pretty mixed Clayface- solid but why no Bat

+stupid not really canon stuff that is genuinely disconnected from the DCEU enough to be outright canon The good SS - Adore it, best thing Gunn's made Blue Beetle- kinda generic but pretty fun Peacemaker S1 - Love it, really good and fun

Iron Man 1 mogs Superman. Supergirl isn’t even better than Iron Man 2. Lanterns is a joke, nothing in phase 1 or 2 has stooped that low.
At some point in time . We will accept the DCU took more risks and is more fantastical the early MCU by a galaxy mile

I was in 3rd grade when the DCEU promised an epic Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman crossover that would lead to the Justice League (and be GOOD), now Im a college sophomore seeing this high budget CW successor tiptoe around even naming him while the brand keeps getting butchered
I just want MCU fans to know that whenever DC FINALLY locks in and gets it’s sh*t together, it’s going to make the MCU look like the equivalent of what Star Trek is to Star Wars.

It's tough being a DC fan when it comes to adaptations, but at least the comics are still there keeping me interested like an 8 year old

Really frustrating that phase 4 was setting up a Dark Avengers thing that was put off until a randomly good phase 5 flick
We should have had these two Avengers movies before Doomsday/Secret Wars.
