Nine months ago, I learned that Facebook has a Responsible AI team, and has had some form of it since Cambridge Analytica. I began to wonder: what has it been doing these past three years? Nearly four-dozen interviews later, here's what I found. technologyreview.com/2021/03…

This is a brilliant illustration by @mugecevik This shows that if you mixed on Christmas Day and have been exposed to Covid, you may not know you have it, but will be most infectious NY eve/day. Limiting human contact will stop the spread. Protect each other #nopartiesthisyear

Switzerland has now banned flights from the UK - following on from an increasing number of other countries.
If the new UK variant may already be in more countries across Europe, why are countries stopping flights from the UK?

Importantly!:
In Europe, the UK & Denmark are the most regular & prolific sequencers. So the variant could be elsewhere & not detected yet.
In Africa, same is true for South Africa.
More coordinated sequencing efforts regionally & globally would help us monitor variants

Security researchers are alarmed: the already-notorious Trickbot malware has been spottied probing infected computers to find out which version of UEFI they're running. This is read as evidence that Trickbot has figured out how to pull off a really scary feat.

Israel: What went wrong?
How did we come to lead the COVID-19 cases chart? What caused the 2nd wave, why was it so bad, and is the lockdown working?

Look at the shape of these curves.
New York and Madrid had similar epidemics until they spectacularly diverged.
In March, both cities were caught by surprise and shut down because of #COVID19.
In September, the situation is under control in NY and alarming in Madrid.
Why?

Mumbai's epidemic keeps teaching us new lessons. It now seems to be showing that even with high estimated overall prevalence (more than 50%), a resurgence is still possible. Daily new cases, test positivity, and the number of sealed buildings all seem to be rising. 1/2

THINK LIKE A SCIENCE JOURNALIST:
I’ve been having many discussions recently about journalism and science journalism in this pandemic. One of my main points: Context is king, caveats are central.
Few stories illustrate that as clearly as today’s news of a #SARSCov2 re-infection.

In June, after reopening, #SARSCoV2 #COVID19 cases in Florida began to rise. Hospitalisations & deaths, however, stayed low.
Perhaps it just wasn't so bad after all? Perhaps something had changed?
We see similar trends in Europe now. So what happened in Florida?
Let's see
