I handled nominations for Senate Foreign Relations Comm for 12 years. Delays happen for various reasons, but this length of delay for so many ambassadorial nominees at the same time has no precedent. All but a handful of these nominees are career Foreign Service Officers.
The work our U.S. ambassadors do is critical for our national security. But they can’t do their work if they aren’t confirmed.

Attendees from 🇺🇸 🇰🇷 visited U.S. nuclear submarine training facilities at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia today. This visit is the first Deterrence Strategy Committee event hosted by @NSB_KingsBay and is a positive demonstration of U.S. extended deterrence.

Willingness to use aggressive nuclear rhetoric that amounts to nuclear coercion is a stark reminder of the nuclear risk in contemporary conflict ... the US wholeheartedly recognizes & reaffirms that a nuclear war cannot be won & must never be fought. #NPTRevCon @DeptofDefense

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the #Divider nuclear test. Moving away from nuclear explosive testing in the #UnitedStates has led us to a new age of scientific innovation that benefits far beyond our nuclear security mission. Read my statement here: bit.ly/3C4HpvZ
Yesterday, I delivered my closing statement at the #NPTRevCon. The U.S. will remain "stubbornly and persistently" at the table until our work to advance this vital treaty is done. There is more that unites us than divides us. state.gov/wp-content/uploads…
The U.S. reaffirms our unshakeable commitment to the NPT and will continue to work with all parties to strengthen and maintain it. In the next review cycle, we can - and must - do more. Let's get to work.

.@atomicbell quotes M. Krepon: Progress in our line of meaningful work is never linear. We live in hard times. All the more reason to remember this: Our aims are true. Our accomplishments fall short of our aims. Even so, our accomplishments are significant.

Breyer/Sotomayor/Kagan: "With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent." From Roe ... to Sorrow. It truly is sad.
