He opened his home to pit bull-type dogs & used his voice to challenge the prejudice against them.
A remarkable man & a true friend to dogs.

Why so few Mooseweilers remain in the wild
They were never that hard to catch.
All it took was a box of Timbits left near a Tim’s. The second they caught the scent of warm, glazed ones, every survival instinct disappeared. They’d wander straight out of the trees and into whatever waited for them.
A few generations later and the wild ones are almost gone. The rest live on couches, still hoping someone drops a Timbits box.

Willow is an older whippet around 9yrs & 13kg from China.
She was rescued from the meat trade via @CandyCaneRescue who asked us to help as she has a few health issues and that could not be fixed in China.
Willow is extremely loving and sweet 🥰
So far she’s had a CT scan, x ray, blood tests and her eyes checked.
She had an old break in the leg, nothing to be done.
She’s going blind. Will see eye specialist next.
The CT scan was not entirely conclusive regarding the lump on nose but we are waiting to hear more but looks like a vascular malformation.
Willow needs a loving quiet home. She’s had a rubbish life… let’s share and change that 🙏🏻❤️
Of course any adopter will be supported with any vets bills going forward.

If working with sick dogs has taught me anything in life it is that we should all try and live in the moment and do more of what we enjoy.
When I was in ICU battling for my life after depression and addiction I told myself if I got another chance I wouldn’t ever be afraid of failure ever again and I’d forget about possessions and the traditional things the world tells us we need to have or do in order to be happy.
All I could think of was either teaching sport to kids or spending time with dogs. I had no idea that change in outlook would lead me to being with dogs in the way I am now and having such a mission.
Its really hard being caught up in the rat race of life with bills, traffic, health issues, social expectations, stress, anxiety, addiction, missed opportunities, lack of options and every other thing that life throws at us all. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do. The only small bit of advice I can give is to try and do more of what you love as soon as you can. It could be learning photography, traveling to a new country, getting a dog, opening a cafe or playing sports you loved when younger. Just try and be kind to yourself and do more of what you love.

The last few days, it was looking like we were going to lose Hank.
But now he says he’s too busy to cross the rainbow bridge and is back to being a 3-month-old puppy again! 🥹

Day 3 of Bonnie and Clyde week.
These two are taking their recovery in stride and looking adorable doing it. Bonnie is rocking the absolute cutest little pink bandage on her ear, while Clyde is sporting his cone and showing off his sweet teefies. 🥹
Even though they have a long way to go, they are handling their treatments like champions. Seeing them safe, comfortable, and still smiling through it all is the best feeling.

The shelter called her Beauty.
Said she had a home but her owner went to hospice.
Perhaps she was loved.
But her teeth are worn to nubs.
She has FIVE masses we need to remove,
She’s heartworm positive.
We want to see her find happy again,

A $5 Friday Rescue Tail
Mom never plans on it happening.
We get full, we can’t pull more pups until we fundraise and find adopters.
Then she’s sent a post.
Three sad, scruffy mixed puppies to be killed the next day at BARC one of the highest kill shelters in the country.
She knows these puppies aren’t going to be chosen for rescue.
This shelter kills on deadline.
Even puppies.
There will be no extensions.
They only hold 24 hours from tag for pick up
Mom said no she just doesn’t have capacity.
To take 3 more.
To find a cross country transport in one day that we can afford.
To vet 3 more.
We literally have 3 foster’s total, none available.
We are sorry but we can’t.
Then she tries to sleep.
Sees their little faces.
Starts thinking she will be responsible for their death IF she could somehow save them and didn’t.
It’s a weird sort of messed up mind game.
So she wakes up with 5 hours to find a reputable transport that can pick up within 24 hours.
It takes 3 hours.
But then the transport she finds needs to pick up within 2 hours because of their schedule.
Then the shelter doesn’t respond to mom’s email to tag the puppies.
Mom calls 3 times, no answer.
She emails again.
One hour before euth deadline and about 20 minutes before she loses the transport she gets through and saves the puppies.
It took all morning.
It wasn’t cheap.
But how much are 3 little lives worth?
They recently arrived at our vet.
They had just a few pledges. Only one actually paid.
They need vet care, one has broken toes.
