"My diary entry has nothing to do with anyone else" This is an important realization if you want to build in public authentically. You share your work, your best work, your worst work. But you share what's real to you, not what you think your audience might want to hear.
this is how i am approaching my work on benji. i am making something that i really really need for myself.

$0 in ads, 0 cold DMs can still make money! When I posted my $100k revenue tweet, people asked me: What worked for you? how did you do this? did you quit Meta when you had x MRR or savings? do you have a marketing strategy? do you run ads? Let me be truthful! I don't know jack sh*t about most of the things I do. I do things because they will bring joy (giving part), adrenaline (in the moment) & money (reality)! But when I sit back and think through the last 5 months, Two things that worked for me were (The below examples are for my design projects, not for movevirtual) Compounding affect: I launched 5 design projects, each one helping me reach a wider audience. Started off by following the "giving" strategy (didn't know I was doing this for some time) for over 2 months before someone wanted to pay for the work! For example, small projects can help bring bigger clients. When I launched TinyUIs, I spent $25 and earned $175 in revenue to date, but it yielded $4,000/m MRR for baked.design Giving: Giving really changed my take on how to grow on X & making connections on Twitter. I was quickly able to find my space and help people out with no expectations. I enjoyed sharing my knowledge (design roasts) and in return, I waited for a simple thank you! Learn to give more, before you ask! Work on smaller projects that complement your bigger endeavours and let them compound your efforts in the long run.

I saw this in the Stockholm subway. I’m guessing a clever way to find new developers to hire, and excluding more or less everyone else. @asmartbear, clever or silly?

You earned the first $10 with your SaaS. A free trial user likes a core module of the product, but needs a very different product around that core module. They give you $2000 if you pivot. What do you do? (Happened to me, I'm curious what you would have done.) #buildinpublic

This is a tough one, and I can relate to it very much. Many years ago, my startup built a product that was the first of its kind. We had a prospect who decided to not use our product, but to build it in house. One year later, they rolled it out as a standalone product, and it was basically the copycat of ours, but they could offer it for free for a long, long time. (We could not afford it as a small company.) With this tactic they basically dominated the market. As you can imagine, I was furious, but that's what it is, this is reality. They actually made a great product, and because of this, people who needed something similar had a choice. So if I think about it pragmatically, it is always good for the customer if there is competition on the supplier side. But as a person, I think differently, especially if it's related to people I know. If I know the person, and that person trusts me, I find it extremely immoral to create a copycat. But even in this case, many people might actually have the same idea, so building a similar product does not necessarily mean that I copy the other one. I'm extremely interested in others opinion on this one! #buildinpublic
A question that came to mind listening to the beginning of this show: are clones and copycats really such a huge problem? Do we benefit from rivalries more than we suffer? In our extremely supportive community, this tends to be a sore topic. But what do you think about it?
