Bat-Dan's Thoughts

Dolores Umbridge ended up in Azkaban after Voldemort's defeat, a detail the Harry Potter films never showed. Despite spending years abusing her authority and using her position to persecute others, she eventually faced justice for the crimes she had committed while working for the Ministry of Magic. During Voldemort's regime, Umbridge became the head of the Muggle-Born Registration Commission, an organisation responsible for persecuting witches and wizards because of their family backgrounds. From that position, she interrogated innocent people, confiscated their wands and helped send them to Azkaban. She continued carrying out these actions while enjoying the enormous power her position gave her. What made her actions even more disturbing was that Umbridge didn't need to be a Death Eater to become one of Voldemort's collaborators. She already shared many of the prejudices behind his ideology and used the Ministry's authority and laws to justify her cruelty. While innocent families suffered under the persecution, she presented her work as though she were simply enforcing the law. However, everything changed after Voldemort's defeat. Umbridge was arrested, tried and sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban for her crimes against Muggle-born witches and wizards. Her fate was particularly significant because she had spent years using the Ministry's authority to destroy the lives of innocent people. The woman who had once enjoyed sending innocent people to Azkaban eventually found herself behind the same prison walls. Her downfall showed that even those who had hidden behind official positions and government authority were not beyond accountability. Unlike the films, the books made sure readers knew that Umbridge eventually faced consequences for what she had done.
