BC has declared a drought-related state of emergency. www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/d… Biome shifting in BC will not be gradual, but rather marked by dramatic episodes: storms & floods, drought & fires. We need revisions across the #bced curriculum to elevate Climate Education.

Great lesson hook for #bced Social Studies teachers. Put image on screen when students arrive. When they’re settled, follow with a couple of news clips on fires in Western Canada and start asking questions. Establish context, explore cause & consequence, consider responses etc.
Extreme and prolonged hot and dry conditions in Canada are setting records and making it effortless for wildfires to rage. Canada was at the epicenter of the most significant heat anomaly on the planet in May.

THIS WEEK: Labour history will be 'Front and Centre' at the @bcfed Regional Conference in #PrinceGeorgeBC. Friday we hit the streets with seldom heard stories of the workers who built the city, shaped its unions, and fought for their rights. #bclab #bchist

Here’s a great case study for #bced Human Geography, SS11, or any class for a current events based discussion. Indigenous land defenders vs conservation of an endangered species. Is there a way to protect both? #perspectivetaking #ethicaljudgement
Poor and often discriminated against, India’s Indigenous Adivasi communities say they are under threat from politically popular tiger conservation programs ⤵️

For Social Studies students, moving from proficient to extending requires coffee grounds or tea bags, and definitely burnt edges.
