An Evangelical in OCIA: “Catholicism isn’t just making up rules for people to blindly follow. It’s training the soul as an athlete trains his body. Catholicism has simply mastered the understanding of the nature of man—& what it takes to actually turn him into a soldier of God.”

"Prayer changes things" is the popular slogan. Aquinas would correct you: prayer changes nothing in God, and everything in the plan. Most people assume that if God is unchanging, petitionary prayer is incoherent. You are asking an eternal mind to change its mind. Either prayer works and God is mutable, or God is immutable and prayer is theater. Aquinas rejects the dilemma entirely. In the Summa Theologiae (II-II, q. 83), he argues that God's will is eternally fixed. No request alters it. But that is not a problem for prayer. It is the very reason prayer exists. Providence does not merely decree ends. It ordains the means. And God has willed to give certain goods through the instrument of your petition. Not because He needs your input, but because He chose to accomplish His plan through secondary causes. The farmer's irrigation is the ordained means of the harvest. He does not beg rain into existence against the order of nature. He cooperates with it. So when you petition God, you are not informing Him of your needs. He knew them before you did. You are, in Aquinas's terms, meriting the reception of what He eternally intended to give through that very act of asking. Prayer is also an act of the virtue of religion. It orders the soul toward God as the source of every good. The petition changes you before it changes anything else. This is why " Thy will be done" is not resignation. It is the most precise description of what prayer actually does. The modern assumption is that a fixed plan makes prayer pointless. Aquinas answers: a fixed plan is what makes prayer powerful. Does this resolve the tension for you, or does petitionary prayer still feel like it requires God to genuinely reconsider?

If you're a Catholic, I want you to know that from now until November 8, you still have an opportunity to obtain a PLENARY INDULGENCE for the souls in Purgatory. Especially for your loved ones. Listen carefully so that you don't miss anything. All you have to do is devoutly visit a cemetery and pray for the dead, even if it is just a mental prayer. But there are other conditions you must fulfil if you want to obtain a plenary indulgence. Let me explain. First, you must be in a state of grace. You must also have the intention of gaining the indulgence and offering it for a deceased soul. Second, you must visit a cemetery between November 1 and November 8 and pray for the departed. You don't necessarily have to visit the grave of the particular person you are praying for. Any cemetery will do. Third, you must receive sacramental confession. The good thing is that one confession can suffice for several plenary indulgences. You don't have to go for confession every single day. Fourth, you must receive Holy Communion. However, you need to receive Holy Communion each time you want to gain a plenary indulgence. So, if you want to gain five plenary indulgences over five days, you need to receive Holy Communion five times. Fifth, you must pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. One Our Father and one Hail Mary are sufficient for this. You can, of course, say more prayers if you wish. Sixth, and this is very important, you must be completely detached from every sin, including venial sin. This means that you must sincerely reject every attachment to sin. If you fulfil all the other conditions but lack this complete detachment, you may obtain only a partial indulgence. Now, you should also know that there is an important distinction here. You cannot apply a plenary indulgence to another living person, but you can apply it to somebody who has died by way of suffrage. Pope St. Paul VI explained this in his writing, "Indulgentiarum Doctrina." He says: "Partial as well as plenary indulgences can always be applied to the dead by way of suffrage." Now, what do we mean by suffrage? When we say suffrage, we mean that we cannot independently release a person from Purgatory by our own authority. Rather, we offer the indulgence to God on behalf of that soul, and God applies it according to His mercy. So, you can offer a plenary indulgence for a particular deceased person, including a loved one. Let me give you guys a few final clarifications. You can gain only one plenary indulgence per day under the ordinary rules. One confession can cover several indulgences, but each indulgence requires its own Holy Communion and prayer for the Pope's intentions. You do not have to fast, give alms, recite the Rosary or say any special prayer formula to obtain this particular cemetery indulgence. Also, remember that the indulgence is specifically for the faithful departed. You are not obtaining another plenary indulgence for yourself on those same days. So, between now and November 8, let us remember the souls in Purgatory. Visit a cemetery, pray for the departed and offer the indulgence for them. Remember, the souls in Purgatory can no longer obtain indulgences for themselves. But we, the Church militant, can assist them through our prayers and the spiritual treasures of the Church. Let us not forget the faithful departed. They need our prayers too.

Right now, your guardian angel is watching you read this. He's been trying for years to break into your life. Most Catholics completely ignore him. Here are 3 things the saints learned about their guardian angels that most Catholics never hear 🧵

Every argument for Protestantism boils down to the same thing, which is: “X is what I believe in, because I personally have chosen to interpret the Word of God in a way that is not at odds with X (but I totally could be wrong about my personal interpretation and X could be completely false)”. Whether the argument comes from someone like @Soteriology101 or @gavinortlund, who typically seem to at least TRY putting thought into their arguments, or whether it comes from the lazy/trash content created by folks like @taco_talks, @ApologiaStudios, and @needGod_net, the result is always the same. Their argument is nothing more than simply: “I believe in X…because I said so.” They are willing to believe in the “Word of God” IF the “Word of God” can be interpreted in the way that their “Words of Men” choose to interpret them. // Don’t be a Protestant. Be a Christian. Believe in Jesus. Jesus told His followers to listen to His Church (Matthew 18), so when it comes to finding the correct interpretation of the Bible, don’t listen to Protestant men, listen to Jesus. God bless!

The Catholic Church truly is a hospital for the sick, and the Sacraments truly are medicine for the soul. I didn’t fully understand that until I became Catholic. There is healing and peace in the sacramental life that I had never known before.

Faith in Christ tells us that our bond with the faithful departed is not broken, but transformed. Through our prayers for the repose of their souls, we accompany our loved ones toward full communion with the Lord, of which we already have a true foretaste here, in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Inspired by this faith filled with hope, let us continue our earthly journey, awaiting the day when the Lord will wipe away every tear.

Holiness is not a privilege reserved for a few, but a universal vocation that speaks to each of us where we live. This is the hope-filled message of today’s feast: God sees the good that we do not see, knows stories that we do not know, and reaches hearts to which we have no access.

Gospel of the Day (Matthew 5,1-12a) When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.
