Shine on you crazy diamond. Shine a hundred thousand stars. A million galaxies. Shine our wretched hearts on you.
“If the world can be saved, it’s the women who will do that. And they do not do it with #war, they do it with words.” - Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, first democratically-elected woman President of the world.
In countries where women hold power, their rights are not taken from them, and when they fight back, the corrupt and misogynist men are crushed. 7 yrs ago I went to Iceland to show Americans how it’s done, and what happens when all the women go on strike:

Reflecting on #WorkingInternationally today. What makes a nation great isn’t songs, or flags, or really any outward trapping. It’s warmth, humanity, openness, optimism, empathy, kindness and how those values are expressed in the words and deeds of its people & its leaders.

Feeling totally moved by the presentation by Vickery Bowles from @torontolibrary - so many wonderful things but I loved the idea of making sure books were the first things refugee children received in their new home #Workinginternationally @CILIPinfo

Loved talking with @tim_cook, who I am lucky to call my friend, for @britishvogue. We discussed our first meeting, pandemic habits, our favorite TV show, the importance of online privacy, @apple’s commitment to the environment, @malalafund & much more. youtube.com/watch?v=bnPmLwFc…

I know the power that a young girl carries in her heart when she has a vision and a mission – and I hope that every girl who sees this cover will know that she can change the world. Thank you @BritishVogue, @Edward_Enninful & @thedalstonyears

I AM SPEECHLESS. Many thousands of Jewish and Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel are marching now in the Tel Aviv, demanding peace and an end to the occupation.
THE BIGGEST ANTI OCCUPATION RALLY IN YEARS. We have a peace and equality movement in Israel: @OMDIMBEYACHAD. WOW.

Today I attended #MELComInternational, the yearly meeting of MidEast studies librarians in Europe. I’m dismayed, shocked and appalled that when the question of making a statement in solidarity with Palestinian colleagues was raised, the conference was literally shut down.

As Gaza comes under attack, its 1M children are the main victims, suffering physical and psychological trauma. Donate to our Urgent Gaza Relief Fund to help PCRF continue our 30-year-long mission of providing direct humanitarian aid to Gaza's children. bit.ly/2YzPhOW
