@andyburnham should read up on the Irish penal laws and how Britain kept the Irish as slaves for 800 years.
Their first slave nation.
If anyone is getting reparations, Ireland is first in the queue, however most Irish do not want hand outs and do not blame current Britons for the failings of their great grandfathers, who abolished slavery in the west.

While we are being lectured to turn the heating down, eat less meat and cough up yet more “green” taxes so the planet can be saved, the politicians and the billionaires doing the lecturing are flying by private jet into places like Davos to eat caviar and congratulate each other on their virtue.
The same politicians and billionaires who helped engineer the energy price spikes, the cost of living inflation, green taxes and the deliberate strangulation of reliable power repeatedly lecture us plebs on why we must accept a permanently poorer standard of living.
They created the cost-of-living crisis with the policies they now demand we endure, then fly over it in carbon-spewing luxury to tell you the pain is virtuous.
The rules are for the ruled. The jets, the motorcades, the government funnelled taxpayer funded net zero contracts to corporations and the moralising are for the rulers.
“Net zero” has become yet another virtue con trick to facilitate yet another asset grab and wealth transfer to the wealthiest while squeezing everyone else.

Reality check needed! … Burnham has given another £40 million of British taxpayers money to Caribbean Commonwealth countries for their infrastructure and Green projects…. To add to the £350 MILLION we’ve already allocated.
And these are the World Bank income classifications…
HIGH INCOME - Guyana,Antigua and Barbuda
UPPER MIDDLE INCOME - Jamaica,Belize. Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Guyana alone produces over 900,000 barrels of oil A DAY and has BILLIONS in its national oil fund! … and we have 18 months waiting lists for NHS dentistry, overflowing prisons and roads full of potholes.
Brilliant 🙄

Labour's Immigration Crackdown Has a New Border. Its Own Backbenches.
In March, Shabana Mahmood went to Copenhagen to learn how Denmark brought immigration under control. She returned with proposals to make permanent settlement harder, warning that allowing lower-paid migrants and their dependants to settle after five years could cost taxpayers £10 billion over their lifetimes. Today, after months of resistance from Labour's Left, her government announced a substantial retreat. The lesson from Denmark survived everything except the Labour Party.
More than 100 Labour MPs threatened rebellion. Angela Rayner denounced the proposals as unfair and un-British. Trade unions mobilised against them. Unison now celebrates having forced concessions. And Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister supposedly determined to restore public confidence in immigration control, has endorsed the revised policy. The Home Secretary has discovered that the hardest border to cross in British politics runs through her own party.
The figures expose the scale of the retreat. Around 300,000 foreign care workers and dependants will retain a five-year route to indefinite leave to remain, provided they meet the conditions. Of the estimated 1.9 million migrants in the relevant settlement cohort, approximately 1.4 million could still qualify after five years. Mahmood's original proposals imposed a fifteen-year wait on care workers. Her government has restored the shorter route for most, while promising tougher conditions elsewhere.
The financial question is uncomfortable. In March, Mahmood cited a £10 billion lifetime fiscal cost associated with settlement among lower-paid care workers and dependants. Now the Government has made a major concession without publishing a full assessment of its financial consequences. Ministers insist the changes will still save billions. Perhaps they will. But a government that invokes enormous costs to justify reform owes taxpayers an equally clear explanation when it retreats.
Burnham's role deserves scrutiny. He wants a National Care Service, yet his government has preserved a settlement route that sustains Britain's dependence on overseas care recruitment. Where is the plan to train British workers, improve pay, retain experienced staff and reduce that dependence? Importing labour became the convenient answer to problems successive governments refused to solve. Burnham appears determined to preserve that convenience while promising reform.
There is another disturbing concession. Care workers who failed to meet their original visa conditions will have another opportunity to qualify through a new five-year visa. Some were victims of dishonest employers. Others may have knowingly abused the system. The Home Office must explain how it will distinguish between them. Otherwise, the message risks becoming familiar: breach the conditions, wait long enough, and another route may appear.
The Conservatives bear responsibility for opening the floodgates under Boris Johnson. Labour now bears responsibility for deciding whether the consequences become permanent. Burnham cannot blame his predecessors indefinitely while allowing his backbenchers and political allies to determine which reforms survive.
Denmark spent two decades building political agreement around immigration control. Britain cannot sustain agreement within one governing party. Mahmood can announce restrictions, but every serious attempt to enforce them must survive Labour's internal opposition. Today demonstrated how readily that opposition can extract concessions.
Burnham is Prime Minister. The authority is his, and so is the responsibility. If his government cannot withstand pressure from its own MPs when immigration reform becomes difficult, the public has every reason to question its promises. Britain's immigration policy is being negotiated around Labour's internal divisions while the country waits for the control it was promised.

The government’s grandest plane, an A321 jet, took off from Stansted at 6.05 a.m. this morning. Burnham wasn't on it. It flew 34 minutes to Manchester to collect the PM, then set off for the Commonwealth summit in Antigua. Guido estimates the detour cost around £20,000 of taxpayer cash. Avanti not good enough for him?
Flight tracking data shows the jet landed in Manchester at 6.39 a.m. and left again at 8.06 a.m., heading for a refuelling stop in Newfoundland before the Caribbean. The government eventually publishes what every trip on the plane costs. Starmer’s same-day trip to Paris on in April came to £39,756 at roughly £20,000 a leg. Stansted to Manchester is shorter than Paris, but every additional leg brings its own landing and handling fees. About £18,000-20,000’s worth according to Guido’s fag packet maths…
The whole jaunt, there and back, comes to about 21 hours of flying. Based on Starmer’s £121,239 trip to Yerevan in May and Yvette Cooper’s £148,700 trip to Washington in December, long-haul flying on the plane costs between £9,500 and £12,400 an hour. That puts Burnham's full trip at about £250,000.
Burnham took the same government jet from Glasgow to Manchester in July to open No10 North, despite a choice of trains. When Liz Truss used the same plane to fly to Australia, @AngelaRayner called it a “ridiculous waste of half a million pounds on a private jet trip”. Thoughts on this one, Ange?

The chief executive of the London Stock Exchange, Dame Julia Hoggett, thinks the government may reduce stamp duty on shares in some future budget.
That's because one of the budget documents acknowledged calls for cuts to stamp duty and said the government “recognises the potential economic benefits of such a change, and will keep this under review, with appropriate regard to the fiscal implications”.
Experts at OXERA predict a permanent increase in GDP of 0.2%–0.7% as a result of scrapping stamp duty on shares with increased revenue after 5 years. But Labour is frightened of short-term revenue loss, which would make it more difficult for them to increase spending on benefits.
They'd rather the London Stock Exchange shrinks to insignificance.

I suspect that the 50 investors who lost £5million in a betting syndicate run by Rory Campbell ( son of Socialist gobshite Alastair Campbell) will be none to pleased to learn has has started a new venture.
After all Campbell,38, is still on bail having been arrested back in September last year on suspicion of fraud by false representation relating to the syndicate.
Campbell owns 60% of the new business.
He gives his address as near Taunton, Somerset. There are two other directors owning 20% each.
One is Aaron Edgeworth who is said to have broken the bad news to the investors that their money ( some had put in between £25,000 to £500,000) was unlikely to paid.
Campbell’s people ( surprised he could afford comms) described these accounts as “ incomplete and inaccurate”.
Not positive what the business will do but it’s called 6th Man Data Intelligence which may give a clue.
Campbell hasn’t said a word since the scandal broke.
Perhaps the next time his father is on a podcast or Question Time he might lift the lid on the murky goings on.
And explain what his boy is doing now living in the rural hamlet of Wrantsge - 7 miles from Taunton- whereas his previous hangout was East London.
All very odd.

It's shocking to see 'low-wage care workers' portrayed as a drain on the welfare state. They're doing essential jobs and the only reason they claim benefits is that the fat cat private equity bosses that own care homes don't pay them enough to live on.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has set out the non-negotiable foundations of “Earned Settlement”:
• No criminal record
• English to a high standard
• No unpaid debt to the British taxpayer
• At least three years of National Insurance contributions
As she put it: “This is the foundation of settlement. The non-negotiable expectations that we make of who seeks to live here permanently.”
This is basic common sense. It’s extraordinary that a clean record, speaking the language, and not being a drain on the taxpayer weren’t already the absolute minimum.
Yet the same Home Secretary has been forced into a humiliating climbdown on the tougher rules that were supposed to sit on top of those foundations. Under pressure from Angela Rayner and more than 100 Labour MPs, she scrapped the plan to make lower-skilled migrants wait 15 years for permanent settlement, cutting it to ten.
For the foreign care workers who arrived in the post-Covid surge under Boris Johnson, she went further, revealing thousands will now be able to settle after just five years rather than the proposed 15, provided they meet certain conditions.
This is the Boriswave becoming the Burnham burden.
Mahmood herself previously warned that care workers and their adult dependants expected to settle by 2030 could cost taxpayers a staggering £10 billion over their lifetimes.
More than 616,000 visas were issued through the Health and Care route between 2022 and 2024, including dependants. Official estimates suggest around 146,000 care workers and 136,000 dependants could benefit from the concession.
The country did not ask for this. It will cause uproar, and Reform, Restore and the Conservatives who opened the door in the first place will rightly make political capital from it.
Once again, politicians are ignoring the clear will of the people.
