imo we’re conflating complexity with romantic depth when these relationships operate on different registers. loustat is a love story made monstrous by the excess of its intensity; loumand is a power dynamic that exposes the monstrosity and psychological horror of love’s absence.

“you must have said something to him to make him do that to himself” and he just said he loved his little brother and now he’s afraid to say it again cause it could mean he’ll lose someone he loves again just like before

I wish everybody could decide on a narrative. was s3 lestat unfairly pandered to and woobied to death or was he doing darvo and not giving a shit about his loved ones because it can’t be both

lestat is not particularly evil as far as vampires in the chronicles go and i don’t know why people would want the show to focus more on his “evilness” when they have already made him more evil than in the books.

he killed his family!!! he killed a random
couple on their honeymoon!! he’s already more evil than the books how evil do we have to make him.
Replying to @birdsongstat
I kind of agree though? I think s3 is a bit cowardly when it comes to showing Lestat being evil.

I’ve seen sooo much “they watered him down in s3” commentary which baffles me bc it showed him murdering his family, taking ownership for his treatment of Louis and Claudia and we never got the book “I only kill evildoers” retcon
just realised that of all the places louis takes dreamstat to he never imagines him in the theatre, despite it being the most directly connected place to lestat. which is why seeing him there in 207 is such a gut punch. there could be more to it, it’s such a pointed choice
it’s like him being there during the rehearsals or performances is such a realistic scenario, he struggles to imagine it, perhaps?
