We are very proud to see SynMaxâs data featured once again in @Reutersâ reporting on Iranian jet fuel deliveries to Myanmar, as part of their ongoing investigation into the tankers REEF and NOBLE.
The latest Reuters analysis examines how purchases of sanctioned Iranian jet fuel were disguised. SynMaxâs maritime domain awareness platform, Theia, provided the satellite imagery and analysis tracking the REEF (IMO 9263382), a 144-meter chemical tanker, from Bandar Abbas, Iran, to Southeast Asia, and confirming that the NOBLE loaded at Bandar Abbas while broadcasting a false AIS destination.
When vessels volunteer false positions, imagery provides the ground truth. Theia ingests and fuses more than 40 million km² of satellite imagery daily with global AIS and additional datasets to detect, identify, and track tens of thousands of vessels, regardless of AIS output.

GPU-hour Futures
Several financial exchanges have developed compute futures. Theyâre due to start trading in November, following regulatory approval from CFTC who sought comment on compute derivatives in August.
Compute is the processing power and hardware infrastructure that machines need to train and run AI models. Much of the discussion around compute markets is about the capacity supplied by GPUs.Â
You do not have to own these chips. You can rent access to GPU capacity from cloud providers and specialist infrastructure companies. That makes it possible to put a price on the use of a particular type of processor, commonly expressed as the cost of renting one GPU for one hour.Â
Interestingly GPU-hours and not tokens are being securitized. Token derivatives might come later, but for now the derivative market is being built upstream of the models, and downstream of the chips.
This sets the first financial commodification point in the AI tech stack.
HOWEVER, not all GPU-hours are equal. The price can vary depending on the type and configuration of the GPU, its location, and the terms under which capacity is rented. That variability is one of the central challenges in creating a derivatives market for compute.Â
The idea is to create a futures contract whose value is tied to the cost of renting computing capacity. This can be a synthetic GPU-hour that represents a composite basket of chips, or it could be a contract for specific chip models.
Contracts have already been announced by CME Group and Silicon Data.
CME plans to list futures based on Silicon Data's H100 and B200 Rental Indices, which measure the hourly rental cost of two models of Nvidia GPUs. Each contract represents about a month of continuous capacity for a single GPU.
ICE is taking a different approach, working with two partners to list two types of compute futures. One set of contracts will reference Ornn's Compute Price Index, which tracks live-traded spot prices for GPU compute across major hardware types.
The other set is based on the COIL index developed by NATIVX, which takes a different approach by normalising compute prices for energy costs, helping make prices from locations with different power costs more comparable.Â
The most recent entrant is Nodal Exchange, which announced a partnership with Compute Desk, a provider of GPU rental price indexes, to launch its own set of compute futures. Although Nodal is smaller than CME and ICE, it has more than half of the open interest in the US electricity futures market, and that gives users a way to capture correlations between power and compute.
Why is this happening now?
The expansion of AI has made computing capacity a strategically important operating input. Companies developing AI models need access to GPUs, while cloud providers, specialist "neoclouds" and data centre businesses are investing in the infrastructure supplying that capacity.Â
Goldman estimates global AI investment will exceed $1 trillion in 2026 while McKinsey project $6.7 trillion in capital spending on data centres required worldwide by 2030.
McKinsey breaks this down as $5.2 trillion for AI workloads and $1.5 trillion for traditional IT.Â
Who will buy and sell these futures?
An AI developer expecting to rent large amounts of GPU capacity in future could take a futures position that gains value if the relevant compute benchmark rises, helping to offset a higher rental bill.Â
A provider investing in GPUs faces the opposite risk: it has invested in hardware whose earning power depends partly on future rental rates. It could use futures to reduce its exposure to falling prices. Â
This creates a need for hedging on both sides of the market, although neither would necessarily get a perfect hedge.Â
This can dramatically lower the existential risk faced by all parties and therefore dramatically reduce the cost of capital.
The challenge is fungibility, real prices vary by model and location.

As promised, my next company is going to be a non-binary company!
Introducing Trinary.ai, a research lab testing and designing a new type of AI inference chip, that will use an entirely new software stack, without legacy binary code.
My co-founder, @ICastroGarcia and I are hoping to build the worldâs first native ternary hardware device, developed and built entirely in Austin, Texas.
Check our website and videos below for more information. We donât have all the answers yet, but weâre exciting about the possibilities that base 3 computing can offer!

The College-in-3 trend is accelerating. Early movers experimenting with a 3 year bachelorâs degree were less selective schools like Merrimack or Weber State. Then states like OH, OK, and KS told their flagship universities to pilot the 90 credit degree. Now even NYU is doing it.

How purchases of sanctioned Iranian jet fuel were disguised by Myanmar
In December 2025, the U.S.-sanctioned tanker Reef delivered about 113,000 barrels of fuel to Myanmar under fake paperwork.
Myanmar broker Dynamic Wave signed a $15.8 million contract with Thailandâs Tawan-Oil Trading for supposed South African diesel. UN and Vortexa data show no such trade existed in 2025. The cargo was actually Iranian jet fuel from Bandar Abbas, confirmed by shipment records, satellite imagery, and SynMax Intelligence tracking.
Days before arrival, Myanmarâs foreign exchange regulator told Dynamic Waveâs client it would issue import documents labeling the cargo diesel âinstead of jet fuel.â
Payment went to Tawanâs account at Thailandâs Siam Commercial Bank. Matching delivery dates and quantities confirmed the Iranian origin. The scheme helps supply jet fuel amid U.S. sanctions, as the juntaâs airstrikes have killed thousands since the 2021 coup, per the UN.

đąđžđŹđ§ A $10 MILLION GADDAFI MANSION HAS BEEN SITTING ABANDONED IN ONE OF LONDONâS RICHEST NEIGHBORHOODS FOR MORE THAN A DECADE.
The house sits on âBillionaires Rowâ in North London, where mansions can sell for ÂŁ20 million, even ÂŁ65 million. Yet nearly one in three homes there is empty.
This one once belonged to Saadi Gaddafi, son of Muammar Gaddafi. He bought it in 2009 through a British Virgin Islands company, with up to a dozen bedrooms, an indoor pool, gym, cinema and walls decorated with imitation diamonds.
Then 2011 happened.
Muammar Gaddafi was killed, Saadi fled Libya, and the mansion was effectively frozen in time. Activists later occupied it, hung banners from the balconies and declared that the property belonged to the Libyan people.
A British court later ruled that the mansion had been purchased with Libyan state funds and transferred it to Libya.
But Libya fractured, billions linked to the Gaddafi family were frozen, and the house became trapped in international legal battles.
One of the strangest twists came when General Dynamics UK pursued Libya over unpaid contracts and a British court allowed the mansion to be used as collateral in a ÂŁ16 million claim.
So today, one of Londonâs most extravagant homes is basically a geopolitical pawn: too valuable to ignore, too legally tangled to use, and still sitting empty in a neighborhood filled with some of the richest people on Earth.

Remember I told you about the person who was doing new brain/computer interface work since he has a spinal injury that keeps him from opening his hands, or walking?
@TBabb02 is the guy, and is the director of marketing here. He is doing a bunch of R&D with brain/computer interface companies. Last Sunday he was the first to use a new kind of device from an Austin stealth mode startup that let him operate a robot hand. He showed it to me and it blew my mind. It can "listen to" the electricity headed down his arm to his hand.
AI is going to help so many people that when doomers doom I just think about him and what's being worked on in labs around the world, but particularly in Austin (Neuralink has a big presence there, for instance).
Inspiring.
Along with @adamasonbrink and @grantweston they are building a new kind of "company brain" that's very different than the others I've seen.
All starts with watching how you work over time.

đ¨đ¨đ¨ Russian intelligence operatives hiding behind fake identities aboard commercial vessels?
A new investigation by @DanWatchDK reveals that 28 individuals aboard seven đˇđş Russian commercial vessels transporting military equipment from Kaliningrad to Africa may have been sailing under fabricated identities.
The findings are striking:
đš Passports with nearly identical numbers, apparently issued around the same time.
đš No identifiable digital footprint for the individuals concerned.
đš Older, non-biometric passports with no recorded travel history in the databases examined.
The findings raise serious questions about the potential use of commercial shipping as cover for Russian intelligence operations and covert personnel movements through European waters. â ď¸

On the 23rd of September 2026, SynMax's maritime domain awareness platform, Theia, detected and tip-and-cued high-resolution satellite imagery of the NING FENG LENG 2 (IMO 1026697), a 157-meter Chinese-flagged reefer, engaged in a ship-to-ship transfer with an unidentified squid jigger just outside of the exclusive economic zones (EEZs) of Peru and Chile (-15.8541, -80.9254).
At the time of capture, AIS location data was not received from either vessel.
The interaction between the two vessels is consistent with the resupply of personnel or provisions and the transshipment of catch at sea, practices that allow distant-water fleets to remain active near fishing grounds for extended periods and complicate the traceability of fish products. Tracking support vessels such as reefers enables analysts to identify the vessels, ports, and markets through which IUU (illegal, unreported, and unregulated) fish enter the supply chain, allowing enforcement to focus on a small number of high-value nodes rather than thousands of individual fishing vessels.
Theia ingests more than 40 million km² of satellite imagery daily, fusing it with global AIS and additional datasets to automatically detect, identify, and track tens of thousands of vessels across oceans, regardless of AIS output. Atlas, SynMax's Agentic AI, extends this further, enabling analysts to interrogate Theia's pre-processed datasets, generate network charts, and explore links between vessels, such as repeated rendezvous between support vessels and fishing fleets, shared patterns of life, and changes of identity, to map the networks behind transshipment activity at scale.

AUSTIN MAN shoved a man to the ground on Congress Ave and punched him in the head repeatedly while yelling that he was in the CIA. The victim was just standing on the corner minding his own business.
Police had been called about a fight involving a machete, and they found a hatchet lying in the middle of the street.
The assault charge was dismissed.
Since then, Gilbert Perez has asked police to take him to jail three times.
In July he was caught outside a downtown 7-Eleven he'd been banned from, holding a rock, after he tried to break a window. He told the officer he wanted to go to jail.
In August he walked into the same store with a rock and threatened to smash the windows unless staff called the cops. Prosecutors declined to charge him.
Last month he went back again and told police he knew about the ban and "disregarded it." Prosecutors declined that case too. Two days later he refused to leave a business on East Riverside and told the officer he wanted to go to jail.
The Chick-fil-A down the block banned him too. He kept coming back anyway.
In March he was arrested for felony criminal mischief, more than $2,500 in damage. DA Jose Garza's office gave him 7 days.
9 cases. 5 declined or dismissed. His longest sentence was 7 days. He keeps committing crimes and telling the police he wants to go to jail, but prosecutors keep insisting he's safe for the street.

Here is what Iâve found đ
LASIK eye surgery costs roughly $2,100 per eye today. In 1998, it cost $2,200 per eye. Adjusted for inflation, you are paying about 60% less for a procedure that has simultaneously become faster, safer, and more precise. That is what markets do when left alone.
Now compare that to a hearing aid. The FDA classified hearing aids as prescription medical devices for decades, locking you into audiologist appointments before you could buy a $3,000 device that a manufacturer could produce for $300. Or, look at insulin. Heavily regulated, patent-extended, and politically manipulated, a vial of Humalog ran over $330 in 2024 versus roughly $21 in Canada for a biosimilar. Same molecule. Different regulatory environment.
LASIK sits in a peculiar gap. Insurers rarely cover it, which means third-party payment schemes never severed the price signal between provider and patient. You shop, clinics compete, manufacturers race to improve technology. The feedback loop that markets depend on functions exactly as it should.
Regulated medical markets break that loop deliberately. The FDA's approval process costs pharmaceutical companies over $2.6 billion per new drug on average, erecting barriers that protect incumbents and punish smaller competitors who cannot absorb a decade of compliance costs. Patients then pay the premium on the back end.
LASIK is the control in the experiment. The market won.

Every study finding "evidence" that medical transition is beneficial is like 53 people sent a questionnaire two years after transition with a 40 percent loss to follow up rate.
Meanwhile, Finland has rigorously tracked the mental health of every single patient who received gender medicalization over decades in the entire country and found that the rate at which patients required mental health treatment more than doubled after transition.
The study is orders of magnitude larger and more methodologically rigorous than anything ever attempted by those claiming transition is medically necessary and lifesaving. And yet trans activists pretend that the vastly stronger study is weaker than their collection of hundreds of laughably weak, underpowered, and self-evidently tendentious studies. Any multiple of zero is zero.
The entire premise of âgender transitionâ is a fraud.
After cross-sex hormones and surgery, the share of young Finns needing psychiatric care went from 19% to 49%!
Finland tracked every young person sent to its gender clinics, for up to 25 years. Among those given cross-sex hormones or surgery, 19.2% had needed specialist psychiatric care before their first clinic visit. After their last procedure, 48.9% did. Their matched peers stayed flat.
We were told cross-sex hormones and surgery would fix these young people's mental health. Finland checked. After the drugs and the surgery, far more of them needed psychiatric care, not fewer.
What Finland found
Finland sends every young person who wants a medical "gender reassignment" to one of two university hospital clinics, in Helsinki and Tampere. Researchers led by Dr. Sami-Matti Ruuska, an adolescent psychiatrist, and Prof. Riittakerttu Kaltiala, a professor of adolescent psychiatry at Tampere University, pulled the national health records for every one of them.
That's 2,083 people under 23 who went to those clinics between 1996 and 2019. Each was matched with eight people of the same birth year and hometown, 16,643 in all. Some were followed for up to 25 years.
The new numbers
Critics claimed the first analysis might have counted people who hadn't had their drugs or surgery yet. So in September the authors ran it again, starting the clock only after each person's last step: cross-sex hormones, breast removal, or genital surgery.
â˘Before their first gender-clinic visit, 19.2% had needed specialist psychiatric care.
â˘At some point after their last procedure, 48.9% did.
â˘Their matched peers, counted from the same dates, went from 14.4% to 13.2%.
After their last procedure, these young people were about six times as likely as the general population to need specialist psychiatric care. That held for both males and females.
