$6.3B. Largest crypto theft ever. The cryptography never broke. No key "leaked." A DevOps laptop got compromised, the attacker reached an internal signing pipeline, and had it produce valid authorizations. The math held. The boundary around *what can make the system sign* didn't. "But multi-sig?" An exchange signs thousands of withdrawals a minute — no human clicks approve. The signers are automated. If one process can reach them, it doesn't steal keys; it asks, and the infra signs, because that's its job. m-of-n means nothing when one actor can summon all n. WazirX was multi-sig. Bybit was multi-sig. Both drained. Signatures don't protect you when a single point can make the system produce them. On Ethereum this ran through EIP-7702 — one authorization was all it took. Both are real flaws: the signing path reachable by one human is what let them get a valid authorization at all, and 7702 made it permanent — one auth turns the wallet into attacker code that keeps draining every future deposit. One let them in, the other made it catastrophic. When I was younger I studied Mitnick obsessively — not to break anything, but to understand hacking on a human level. His whole point: you don't beat the crypto, you beat the person, the process, the one endpoint with access. Thirty years later, $6.3B, same lesson. And that's the whole thing. Every one of these traces back to a human or a known endpoint sitting in the control path. The fix isn't better humans — it's removing the human-shaped single point entirely. No one person who can sign. No one machine you can phish. No named party you can subpoena. The tech enforces the rules; nobody can override it; the operators are anonymous and distributed, so there's no "guy with access" to compromise and no one to lean on. You can't social-engineer a system that gave no human unilateral power. The "recovery" this week? ~$3B frozen — by centralized issuers, USDC, USDT, a chain's security council. Not a decentralization win. Centralization doing what it's good at. But decentralized isn't inherently helpless. A truly decentralized network could freeze on a permissionless trigger, even revert only the malicious txs and nothing else. That system doesn't exist yet — or some of us are quietly building it. Security is the product. Anonymous, decentralized, with the tech holding the rules and no single point to break — that's not an ideology. It's the only architecture this hack couldn't have touched.
Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified. The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far. Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete. As an immediate precaution, Binance has: - temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed; - revoked the affected address authorisation; - engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds. Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice. Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions. binance.com/en/support/annou…

Every @hedera ecosystem participant has the right to know who 0.0.9125858 is. We need to know if the account is associated to @hashgraph. If so then did the allocation receive a review from legal/compliance before being issued? This looks like moral hazard on steroids. Community members should not be vilified for asking questions
Another attempt of brainwashing by our good friend @thehbarbull, that’s my 2cents on his (senseless) takes. To read it, make up your own thoughts as always. And let’s invoke Master Bob Marley: DON’T LET THEM FOOL YA!!

I assumed a $9M hack meant a lot of people lost money. So I rebuilt Bonzo Lend's entire depositor set on-chain. 125,825 pool calls. 52,441 deposits. 2,423 accounts. Every balance read 39 seconds before the attack. One wallet held 92.19% of the USDC pool. The next largest: 1.43%. Two thirds of the $9.05M sits with a single account — one paid a full year of yield to carry exactly the risk that materialised. Then I traced its funding. Every HBAR it holds came from one pass-through account that keeps a balance of 2 HBAR. That same account sent 250,000,000 HBAR to 0.0.800 — the keyless pool that pays staking rewards to every HBAR staker on the network. External parties don't fund Hedera's staking rewards. Full trace, transaction IDs, and exactly where the evidence stops 👇

Socialising bailouts of bad protocols is the corrupt system we are trying to escape with web3 Instead of holding protocols to standard, retail, who did their homework and chose not to invest is this risky protocol, will pay No different to bank bailouts and inflation
Following the oracle exploit that affected Bonzo Lend on July 11th (UTC), Bonzo Finance Foundation will fund the recovery of all affected user positions as they stood prior to the incident, backed by a recovery facility committed by Hedera Foundation. bonzo.finance/blog/hedera-fo…

Hedera Foundation will fund a full make-whole for Bonzo Lend users after the July 11 oracle exploit. Read that again. A foundation — funded by us, the holders, the #HBAR investors — is absorbing the losses of a private lending protocol’s users. With whose money? So I have questions, and I’d like them answered by @bonzo_finance and @Hederafdn before the applause starts: — What capital backs this “recovery facility”? If it touches HBAR, then every holder just underwrote a bailout for a protocol we may never have used. — When Sirio was exploited — same chain, same Foundation backing — its users got silence. Bonzo gets a rescue. What’s the criterion? Who qualifies, who doesn’t, and who decides? — How close are Bonzo’s stakeholders to the people writing the check? Because “the Foundation makes its own affiliates whole with community-adjacent funds” is a sentence that should never be true — so prove it isn’t. — And the exploit itself was preventable negligence — an oracle running unguarded code that eleven other chains had already fixed. Why are the people who had nothing to do with it paying for it? I sympathize with everyone who lost money. Genuinely. But sympathy isn’t a mandate to socialize private losses onto an entire holder base. So I’ll say it plainly: I decline my consensus to this. Not because I don’t care about the victims — because it cannot be us who pays for someone else’s damage and someone else’s negligence. A chain that quietly turns its holders into the insurer of last resort — with no vote, no criteria, no disclosure — isn’t decentralized. It’s a discretionary fund with a logo. A new day, a new @hedera nonsense bullshit taking place.

This is the reason why other countries are miles ahead of us with it comes to crypto adoption. More thoughts on Illinois’ new tax on crypto👇🏼
JUST IN: 🇺🇸 Illinois passes law to tax crypto transfers regardless of profit or loss, starting 2027.

This Illinois law is remarkably bad - it will end up hurting the state, kill jobs and push innovation out of the state. Coinbase has 1,517,628 customers (aka voters!) in Illinois. If you think this is bad policy, sign up at @standwithcrypto and let your representatives know
This is one of the most anti-crypto laws in the U.S. It taxes the exchange, transfer, or storage of digital assets—you buy BTC, you pay a tax; you hold your BTC on Coinbase, you pay a tax; and so on. There is effectively no comparable state financial transaction tax on stocks, bonds, or derivatives anywhere in the country. That means crypto is being singled out in violation of several federal laws. Further, the approach makes little sense—you aren’t taxed if you exchange a stock, bond, or derivative in paper form, but you are taxed if they happen to be recorded on a blockchain? That’s like taxing email. So, rather than embracing innovation and the cost efficiencies blockchains can deliver for ordinary people in Illinois, the state is poised to punish its entrepreneurs and citizens that want to use crypto. This is a shame—it was only just recently that Illinois embraced a constructive approach to blockchain technology through the adoption of the effectively-scoped Digital Assets and Consumer Protection Act. This new tax is a complete 180. When states adopt discriminatory, asset-specific taxes that drive builders and users elsewhere, we all lose.

A @Hedera retail power alliance has been formed 👻🤍
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Today we’re announcing our $GIB Growth Reserve. Through a partnership with @gib_plz, over a period of time we have been able to acquire 150+ Million GIB (15% of total supply) with plans to continue acquiring GIB in the coming years. This is being done through funds supplied by both projects + outside investment. As a part of this agreement, it is contractually stipulated that this supply will be permanently held and never sold back to the market. As this ecosystem expands and the value of GIB grows, we will deploy this supply for staking or liquidity on Hedera DeFi platforms to earn rewards. This will act as a permanent additional revenue stream for DPGC that will be used to buy additional Ghost supply for our Forever Mint pool. We believe the Hedera ecosystem has a bright future, and these acquisitions ensure Dead Pixels Ghost Club is positioned to benefit from that growth for a long time to come. We think symbiotic relationships like these will strengthen both the DeFi and NFT ecosystems on Hedera. Why GIB: GIB quickly became the leading memecoin on Hedera. We’re biased, but we believe brands and characters that are cute, clean, and endearing have high ceilings, so GIB’s growth potential is appealing. We also have a relationship with the team and are able to closely watch the way they work, so we’re confident in their ability to build a successful brand. A central part of our strategy is making DPGC sustainable so that we can create a brand that will be here for decades. A crucial part of that means ensuring the project has strong, diversified revenue streams. Having a stake in GIB’s potential means DPGC directly benefits from its growth for years to come. Ghosts are eternal and gib is big.
