Coding with ChatGPT4 is like having a junior programmer writing code for you, and then you have to fix the code before you put it into production. And read documents to be sure that null is a correct value for that parameter (it's likely not).

So finished my trial on GitHub CoPilot. My verdict: It's pretty much the same as having a noob coder sitting next to you, constantly interrupting your flow and wasting your time with review request for code suggestions that are 90% garbage.
I was thinking about the scale of user-generated content. If, on average, every human produces 1 second worth of content, once. That's 221 years of content 24/7. What the hell, man...

It is hard to overstate how strong the push for object-oriented programming was. It even bled out into other fields like education (look up "learning objects"). You had to organize your programming projects into hierarchical classes and you would be ridiculed if you did not. Java and C# are a reflection of this era. It took 25 years for the obsession to die down. Basically, the gurus had to be given time to retire.
Object-oriented programming can work… but there are serious pitfalls that will make your projects harder to maintain and optimize. Deep inheritance is almost always a disaster.
The lesson is: don’t blindly embrace the latest things even if everyone is. Masses will lead you astray. Be critical. – at Longueuil, Québec

the previous clearly defined lines between what IS and IS NOT AI, are about to get very blurry...
Man I knew the day would come when a company like microsoft simply decides you will be using their shit product (office) from now on. No cancel or no button, just YES. Also the language suggests I had allready taken previous steps. No.

how the planets map a rectangle to a sphere.
there are no polygons in this game. when we're on the surface of a planet, it uses a heightmap raycaster (aka floorcaster). when we see a distant planet, it is rendered as a sphere. how are the two reconciled?

This *huge*. I wonder what Apple and Google are going to come up with to discourage and undermine this. I'm sure they'll try anything including injecting viruses into sideloadable apps if they have to. And ofc a shitload of disinformation. Interesting times.
Happy 5th of July!

Just saw this artwork on my timeline and for a second I thought it was one of those AI drawings: "Dune + nail polish advertisement". Which made me realise artist will be pushed to compete with AI's
CA Winner: @mariapicasso employs her stylized, contemporary aesthetic in her illustration for a Catalan language publication of Frank Herbert’s Dune. ow.ly/uohB50JvfM0

@Nothke set me up to this (but I'm happy he did). I made a quick #gamejam style game #madeinunity: bugshake.itch.io/frog-game don't expect too much ;)
Learnings ✅Things get sooo much simpler and Unity is sooo much more useful when you don't care about visual quality or performance, but just want to get some gameplay working ✅Polish is 2/3 of the time. This is a very fun way of working! ✅ Bad docs/APIs cost MUCH time
✅The new #b3d version is much easier to get back into now after not using it for months ✅I got a good idea what a base 'prototyping game template project' would look like for me now ✅kitbashing is (still) awesome

Basic fact all graphics coders should know:
To uniformly sample points in a disk, you'd think you could just pick a random radius r ∈ [0,1] and a random angle θ ∈ [0,2π] to generate points r (cos θ, sin θ).
This doesn't work!
…But take the square root of r, and it does! 1/3
